This is my first attempt. I'm following Karabo Legwaila's excellent tutorial (specially very detailed - very useful for beginners like me).

Currently I'm focusing on understanding 3ds max 5's tools (here basically we're talking about mesh modeling). I'm quite obsessive about in modeling (no lose vertices, no sharp edges) which of course takes lots of hours. Here's my work so far.

I will appreciate your comments regarding this work and also any links containing useful information for car modeling newbies.

Thanks very much. I wish to mention that all of you people make this forum a very professional and useful resource for CG.

it looks as if you were using an orthographic camera to take this pic.. use a perspective one, that way the picture is far easier to read for the normal human being.. ;)

I appreciate very much your comments. I set up a camera to improve the angle. Let me know if the angle needs to be changed. For this shot I removed the side and back doors.

Car exterior is finished, I'm working on the details.

Another pic. There are some corrections pending: the small headlights casing is too extruded, and the line that runs in the middle of the car is due to the mirror, will be fixed when I weld the vertices at the end.

I started working with 3D just a couple of months ago, so please forgive any error in the shots. I'm using default renderer and lights in max 5. Is it better to change those settings for a preview? Should I rise the camera? Put a white floor? Cast shadows? I donīt know, just let me know what is better to appreciate the work. Thanks.

much better camera perspective, and looking good so far. only thing looking a bit off are the windows. they appear to be rather rounded.

i would say, as long as you havent reached the stage yet where the model itself is finished and you have moved on to materials and lighting i wouldnt worry about putting in shadows or a floor or something.

Apart from the windows being to rounded, I like what you have so far, keep going.

Model looks good, but material is baad.... for test renders i'd suggest better lightning, default one isn't good enough ;) Three-point setup should do.
