Hello everybody,
my name is Alex and I'm pretty new both to matte painting and this forum. At the moment I'm working at a competition that was launched by a nearby advertising agency. The topic is "Future-I will design it" (I hope I translated it correctly) and one has to design a poster about that topic. I desided to make a matte painting of how the city the advertising agency is in might look like in the (near) future. I'm not sure how it will turn out but I've got two ideas: The first one would be to use the matte as a background and the second one would be to use it as a stand alone picture. What is important to me is that you will recognize the city but also see that it is a future vision of it.
All right, so here is my request: Could you please help me a little bit with that work? I will post here how far I came from time to time and it would be cool if you could tell me what to change/improve and so on. :bounce:
Thank you very much!!!

PS: Sorry for my bad english

I'd still be happy to get some tipps, e.g. on how to make the highrise looking more realistic
Or do you think it already does?
By the way: Can you see the pictures now?

nice one... the highrise buildin on the left looks kinda weird.. u can make out dat its copied and pasted...add something else to dat, like a ring around the buildind or a helipad hanging..the shadow of the highrise building on the right is wrong...all the shadows r fallin to the left where as u hav made it fallin straight.. even the highlights on dat building should be on the rightside rather than the left... but the building looks kinda real... i would say a add a little grains to it nd a little desaturation would look good.. the green patch in the foreground left is not lookin good...nd hardly can make out wot dat white thing is...
ny ways all da best..

Your main issues are color balance, brightness, and contrast. I'm not sure how you're compositing this, but if it's shake, put some nodes in there and start tweaking. If it's Photoshop, do some effect layers and have them only apply to that particular layer (option G i think).

Your shadows are also much softer than the sunlight cast ones. The color and shadowing on the grass in the foreground aren't quite right. Also look at how the new low rise growth in the background just drops off immediately. Blend that in with some vegetation.

Look at the color desaturation in the color shadow roof areas.

I'd say the best work is the white building in the foreground. The extension on that one is great.

Thank you for the great tipps SEDiT and boboroshi
I just flooded the gras in the foreground :)
The software I use for compositing is Paint Shop Pro X. The problem is that not many people are using PSP but I am used to it and it works well (most of the time)
