This is an effects shot exercise I did in Maya. I wanted to get a close to realistic feel yet still having hints of saturated colors here and there for more interest. Plus it was a good exercise of rendering off in layers and compositing.
Software: Maya, AE, Photoshop, Premiere.

Great effort mate, well done!
My only comment would be to linger a little bit longer on the flower towards the end and maybe add little bit of subtly in there.

Overall you have done a terrific job on a conceptual and technical level.

Keep up the good work.

thanks for the comments guys. I guess I could let the flower linger for abit more... maybe make the stem fatter as well...
Well if I got time and an appettite for it I might do it.
cheers

Kostas that looks amazing, I love the concept and you did managed to execute it really well!
I might agree with you about the stem behing a little too thin, but if the video was in a
bigger resolution I'm sure it would be noticed easily.

Great!!

The growing of the plant looks a little bit too fast for me too. But overall I love it. Great piece of animation.

The plant growth probably looks fast because you are subconsciously comparing it to the speed at which the pot was being made.

Great animation! How long did this take ?

Themi! I'm glad you like it and yeah... the stem is abit skinny. I think a higlight would make it stand out more... I may get around to fixing it sometime.

Creature: Thanx for the comments, I'm glad you like the piece too. I guess the flower in whole should be revised... slowed down and made thicker... I'll have to get back to it sometime. thanx again.

anubseran: Thanx man! This took me approximetly a week from start to finish as I was working only on this project. The most time consuming was all the caching of the fluids and particles. I'm glad you like it.

Here is a collage I put together of the shots:

nice work - great lighting and mood. My only comments would be with the plant growing itself. It feels a bit like its all growing at the same rate. Maybe try breaking it a up bit more... have the initial stem growing, then shoots work their way off it turning into small leaves, then the bud expands, before opening and the flower petals grow a little more whilst gaining more colour. You may have already tackled this but it doesn't seem all that evident. Might be worth trying a bit more shape variation in the main stem too as it grows to give it a bit more of a timelapse footage feel

just some small thoughts - its still really really nice :D

hhhmmmm.... I guess I should work on that plant again... give it more time, make it thicker and make the growing more interesting.... notes taken.
Thanks guys.

looking at it again, maybe the stem's/branches/leaves seem a little dark as it grows? If you think about a plant stem growing esp. as a shoot they're very very vibrant green with alot of translucency. try doing an adjustment on the keyframes to make that growth a touch longer (an extra second ought to do it) and make it more vibrant in colour :)

even if you just leave it be its still really really nice work :bounce:
