I saw this thread on the Lw list and I thought I should bring it here.

Does anybody here use voice recognition software
with Lightwave ?

On the Lw list they recommend like Game Commander
because of its low price ($50 us)

What do you guys think?

I dont think I could manage to do that due to the music BLASTING while I am modeling.

Can't have my computer pretending to here things like: "Subpatch" "Delete" "Delete" "Cut" "Destroy" "Eliminate" "Format C:\ immediately"....

Same thing here, I ALWAYS have music playing while I work.
Also, my accent seems to change a lot, so it just wouldn't work out :surprised

I'd probably have a workmate come up behind me and shout 'delete all' or something so nup;)

Maybe it's just me, but I find time to pass a lot faster with music playing. I seem to be more productive without any music, but maybe I'm just weird. Has anyone else noticed anything like this? :T

I always listen to music while working. It helps me tune out office sounds and people typeing in the offices next to me, so i can get in the groooove... I work much faster with music playing. Usually nothing to hard tho. Some Ambient Internet Radio stations or my own music. :p

:airguitar :drumrock: Yeah, I have to have music on all the time as well, I know I work better with it, but Winamp now crashes on my system every time and I have to use Real

I don't think I could talk to my computer all day, besides I can get around most apps faster with my keyboard then I can say something. Clicking "S" or "CTRL-S" is a lot faster then saying Save, lol. It's a kewl idea though.

I've also though of that, there's a prog called "Dragon Naturally Speaking" (from Corel) that should be able to do the trick.

For sure I will look into it one day, I think I could work faster combining shortcuts and voice-commands.

The DNS program should be able to control most other apps.

I animate a lot.. Music is just impossible then. Totally ruins any timing.
I do scream a lot at the computer though, but then that is when I am using Maya ;)

Thanx Samartin, I'll try going back to version 2.81 if it's still on their site.

I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking Professional all the time. It's a pretty awesome application and it is very accurate in picking up your speech if you speak clear enough and take the time to train it. I use it occasionally with lightwave because I'm disabled and can't use the keyboard so I don't have much choice ;)
if you use a noise cancelling headset microphone then you can listen to music while you work as long as it's not <too> loud. I use a directional desktop microphone because I got sick of wearing a headset, but it's not quite as good for recognition accuracy and you can't have any other noise in the room otherwise the software will start making up some pretty funky sentences.
I reckon game commander would work okay with lightwave, it's got a much quicker response time than Dragon NaturallySpeaking because Dragon listens to phrases to get the right context. So you can say "I want to write to the right person to make sure their religious rites aren't illegal" (I just dictated that in one go).
Game commander just listens for a couple of words and will perform a key stroke when it hears certain commands.
Except game commander is $50 and NaturallySpeaking Professional is about $700! And from what I remember you need professional instead of the lower versions of Dragon to be able to program in your custom commands.
Long story short anyway, I think game commander with lightwave has potential
