Howdy,

Ok, I've been using Maya for way too long. When modeling in 3ds max the primatives are made up of triangles not quadrangles as normal. How can I get the default settings back? I'm using 3ds max 5.1. Thanks.

turn off tris in your display prefs

Ok you're looking at your Max ui. In your tabbed panels to the right on the 4th tab that looks like a monitor with a little red triangle and cylinder you want to click on it to bring it forward. On the display properties rollout you will see a checkbox called Edges only, click that and it should return your face display to quads.

Yeah tried that, my geometry is still made up of triangles, (a quads split in half diagonaly). When I select faces I get the whole quad though, who knows, thanks anyway.

There's another way. If you are using hardware acceleration, go to Customize, Preferences, Viewports, and Configure Driver.
