View Full Version : Unwrapping a lowpoly character???

Hello everybody

I just finished my very first character and like to unwrap it now using the Unwrap UVW - Modifier in 3d Studio Max 4.0. What I liked to do is for example only unwrapping half of the body in order to have a larger space for texturing. I generally know how to handle the modifier but what I liked to know is what is the best way for to example only unwrapping half of the face and apply the texture to both parts.

I built up the model by modelling only one part of it and letting the other part create by using a mirrored reference of the model part. Can I now unwrap only one part of the model, texture the mesh and then duplicate the textured part and mirror it and later weld the vertices together and save it and it is finished? Or do I need to unwrap both parts and mirror one onto the other in the mesh? Hope I could express myself so that anybody could understand me

Thanks for answers in advance

If the second half is still a reference, not a copy, then when you Unwrap the first half, the second half will inherit the UVs. Then all you need to do is to Uniquefy the second half, collapse both, then attach one to the other and weld. The UVs will still be mirrored, in fact they will be right on top of each other.

If it isn't a reference anymore, then re-mirror as an instance or reference.

Great, exactly what I liked to know. Thanks a lot!
