Hi

Have a sequence of a more or less cylindrical object rendered out from 3dsmax as rpf's. Ive extracted the CAM from the rpf's and setting up some additional effects in AE.

fx:
Ive drawn a circular arrow and I want this arrow to rotate around the length axis of the cylindrical obj from 3dsmax - illustrating a torque force.

But how do i mask out the portion of the torque arrow thats behind the cylindrical obj? Ive tried to use the matte from the cylindrical obj but ( offcourse ) its also masking the part of the arrow thats in front of the cyl. obj.

Can I use a sort of depth mask or??

you could duplicate the arrow layer and the cylinder, use the cylinder render to matte out the 2nd arrow layer and drag both beneath the original cylinder layer.

you should have unmasked arrow layer on top, then render of the cylinder, then another cylinder layer (autohidden visibility if you've done the mask layer option) which is acting as a mask for the duplicate arrow layer (at the bottom)

hope that helps
