View Full Version : Good book about materials, textures etc.
MazaLeaf 11-17-2007, 10:20 AM Hi!
I was wondering does anyone know or can somebody suggest some book which would comprehensively discuss about materials, textures etc in general or for 3D Studio Max?
Of course this book should be full of tutorials and tips & tricks so that anyone who reads it will be master of materials in no time!
Thanks in advance.

Hi, check out Digital Texturing & Painting by Owen Demers its a must read for any new cg artist. Its not Max specific but all of the concepts discused in the book apply to any 3d package.

I had same question 6 months ago, and grabbed some information.
(1) 3ds max Reference (that comes with software)
click "F1" :)
(2) 3ds max bible (http://www.amazon.com/3ds-Max-Bible-Kelly-Murdock/dp/0470100893/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195379647&sr=8-1)
If you are starting max, this is gonna be good friend of yours. Extensive explanations and simple tutorials to comprehend topics covered.
(3) Rendering with MR & 3ds max (http://www.amazon.com/Rendering-mental-ray-3ds-Max/dp/0240808932/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b)
Recently released, and I picked up because it is oriented with max.
(4) Texturing : Concept and techniques (http://www.amazon.com/Texturing-Concepts-Techniques-Dennis-Summers/dp/1584503009/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195380121&sr=8-1)
I picked up this a couple yrs ago when took 3d courses. Solid foundation. Also it gives you fair amount of comparison between max, maya, and lightwave, which helped me quite a bit when I had to organize confusing technical terminology between max and maya.
Hope this gives you some hint...

Thanks both of you for your suggestions.
I need to check those out and see if they are what I am looking for.
Thanks again!
