View Full Version : Opacity Map problem with vray material
wreath 11-16-2007, 08:19 PM Hi folks, i have an opacity map problem with vray material, here is my prob.

so how can i use my gradient ramp opacity map with my vray material without losing it's properties?

Any help? still suffering from it

I've never used Vray, but the Gradient Ramp is probably not supported by Vray since it's a Max procedural texture. (I assume the other procedural maps like wood are unsupported as well?).
Use a plain texture instead, that should work.

It's too bad, can you advice any other way to get same result?

How are you mapping the Gradient Ramp? You can always use a second UV channel and a texture instead. If you really like the look of Gradient Ramp render it out to a texture :)
I've never used Vray, but the Gradient Ramp is probably not supported by Vray since it's a Max procedural texture. (I assume the other procedural maps like wood are unsupported as well?).You are wrong here; V-Ray supports all the standard 3ds Max procedural textures (the material *is* transparent where it should be, after all).
To resolve the issue, you need to un-lock the Fresnel IOR of the material from the Refraction IOR, and adjust the Fresnel IOR as you need, instead.
This is because, when you enable opacity mapping, the material is assumed to have refractive IOR of 1.0, and the Fresnel formula gives zero reflection for IOR 1.0.
Best regards,
Vlado
