We tried to make some Fur, but as soon as we switch on the Rasterizer we get
nasty artifacts, using Maya 2008.

Anybody seen this before? Any idea what might be the cause and the solution?

Thanks a lot - Christoph

hi
maybe you have some object hidden in your scene that cause the artifacts!
it's work fine here with Maya2008

* make a nurbs or polysphere apply fur adn render with Rasterizer
* save a copy of your render
* now go to Fur/Fur render Settings and scrool down to mental ray and change
Hair primitive to volume
* change the shadow to Segments rather than the default (Simple) in Render Settings
* Do another render and just compare for the quality and for the time!
sory for my english

I think we got the problem:

We were using Detailed Shadow Maps but didn't check the MR override tab,
so they were actually generated by Maya and that created all kind of funky things...
