ThirdEye 04-15-2003, 04:36 PM This forum is starting to seriously kick ass! It seems that many new users came to our forum (some from Postforum it seems...), the C4D community is growing! And i've had a look at C4D - 3ds Max forums in the last days, it seems our number of posts per day is higher than theirs. I think in a couple months we could match their post number.

yes, coming over from the PostForum - it is a nice respite from the non C4D post. If I wanted a political discussion I wouldn't do it on a 3D forum - I'm glad this list is moderated (all though I haven't seen any gross misuse of that power) It's a great resourse - thanks all

agree! glad to be here in a moderated haven
yep the mods are great execpt when they *edit* do things like *edit*. yep if they didnt *edit* so *edit* it would be great.
yeah I have noticed this too the post count is alot higher than it used to be.
I think that kaiski and thirdeye share the "blame" for this.
great job guys.

The postforum was (and still is) a great resource. Unfortunately, it has lately become one of the ugliest, moronic sites as well. Moderation is a good thing.
By the way..
Welcome Brucie!

I agree, I've been lurking in the shadows for some time now, a bit nervous to show my work here, but I've found everyone to be very helpfull with constructive crits and comments. Good to be here. -- dano

Course, it's got better since those two new mods apeared. Can't remember who they are now...
Oh, ThirdEye, that'll be you then ;)
VBulletin is good, too - it's about the best forum software I've seen - I find PostForum awkward to use.

ThirdEye... as a mod, it's your responsibility to telepathically share your talent with everyone.
No exceptions.
By the way... this forum iz teh roxxorz = )

It really is a shame what's happened to Postforum in the last little while, but I'm sure things will get back to normal eventually. The more the merrier I say. I do find that this is a less antagonistic place--notwithstanding my presence. :)

hey JIII, usually it's the actual users who *edit*, they just put that there to make sure that people know they did edit, i've only seen one occasion where the mods have actually edited someone's post... has it happened to you?

yeah when there is an edit you can see if it was a moderator that edited, I deally they will post why they edited it as well, but you can always see who edited a post it says so.
May have seen a lot more edits or moved/deleted threads of recent weeks, and its because of people similar to DAN on postforum. Thing is we know cgtalk can ban a user, and if need be a lot more to keep someone out. And a warning is usually enough.
I was reading that ithread about what people think of C4D n cgchannel as it was pointed out numerous times to me, and I noticed its a new forum section again, how many times have they restarted the C4D forum there? man its just not picking up, there are a lot of c4d ubb forums, and this is the only on that has picked up. I think its partly the overall cgtalk community, I think most of us visit at least one other section as wel as C4D here, and the fact that the threads here are usualy about getting help, sharing help, and just plain sillyness sometimes, which is always good to lighten our hearts in current times.
I've had a lot of fun here, and hope to have a lot more, cheers guys.

Not to sound daft but i have known many cool people here, not to mention my 3D skills have grown a lot. It seems here some people think i'm talented, thanks a lot guys, but don't forget that talent comes out with time and that talent isn't anything without hard work. Thanks a lot to everybody :bounce:

i agree this forum ROCKS.
1) because people on it are helpful and polite and respectful of others opinions.
2) there is no such thing as a new user...everybody is here to learn
3) it is moderated...BUT...in the time i've been here i can't ever remember a mod ...moding a post! this is because people are willing to take responsibility for what they post...it isn't generally a talking shop for things other than 3d and cinema (you got irc for that!)...and people do not try to be offensive if they can't express themselves very well through normal discussion.
4) People are willing to share, be informed, and help inform....
Please, Please lets keep it that way...people.
be nice...

Yeah it sure is good to be here.
I just converted to C4D from first using Max 5, Lightwave 7.5 and Maya 4.5 un.
I just love C4D 8 with the new modeling features and HDRi lightning.
Greets, Martijn.
When I first started coming here there were about 5000 CG Talk members {might of been less, crap memory} Later I remember seeing a post by one of the mods saying if they set up a C4D forum it had to be used...now look :scream:

I got here through renderosity, I have/had a good time there, but the thing I miss there is constructive comment.
This forum is just wonderful :), please are friendly, polite and helpful. You can exchange thoughts with the best 3D/C4D artists in the world.
And no complaints at all about the moderators :buttrock:.
Also, the number of people active here is quite small, and although we always encourage others to try out C4D and expand the community there can be a serious downside to very large forums.
I have seen it happen to a tweakers-forum that grew enormously. I have been a regular member, since it was just a small community. The number of members kept going up and up (they almost have 75.000 members and >8.000.000 posts); to a point where good moderation is nearly impossible. A lot of newbies (basicly nothing wrong with these of course) that don't read FAQ's, dissobey rules, are rude, unpatient and use topics for slow-chat conversations. A lot of members blamed mods for abusing their powers, a lot of arguing about a lot of serious problems some even involving financial/legal issues caused by forum-members.
I still go there for specific topics regarding hardware and graphics, atmosphere there is good, and there still are quite some users that are eager to share their knowledge. But it isn't what it used to be.
I don't think this will happen here, but I just wanted to let you know. CG-talk is probably the forum that I visit most and as far as I'm concerned it will stay that way for a long time ;).
kudos should go to you also third eye - im not able to participate much but i read and im sure there are more - isnt the standard that there are about seven times more readers than posters in all forums? - also, there are several strong leaders here, thats what makes, or breaks, a forum

Thank you very much :)
I also wanna say that this forum rocks! I cant say how many times i got my ass saved becoz of help from the people in here, but it must be many times! Also, since cinema 4d still is a somewhat "smaller" app, it feels like ur more "connected" to one another, silly as that may sound. Whenever i see someone post a cinema 4d piece, there will almost always be someone who thinkks its cool that it was done in cinema. Ok this probably sounded weird so i hope u got my point lol.
Anyway, cinema 4d rocks and this forum makes it even better to work with it!

sorry guys i also have to add....Maxon's "unofficial" participation on this forum rocks...
Here are some things I like about this forum
[1] It's got a high signal to noise ratio.
[2] The people that use it are both knowledgable, experienced and friendly.
[3] When people post images, they get constructive advice - not simply a rash of gushing praise without any useful feedback.
[4] The forum is usable - unlike many I've come across.
[5] People from Maxon are aware of what goes on here.
Max
ohh I cant believe that wonderful post I am just gushing with admiration lol

this forum is my first stop in the morning, and the first place I turn when i'm (frequently) stuck. i'm looking forward to the time when i'm not the dumbest/newest person here and i can start giving back some of the great aid and advice that's been so readily available here.
thanks to everyone who's putting in their 2c and building this forum into a fantastic (friendly, politics-free) resource.

I totally agree with artemesia66, you took the words right out of my mouth! Hope to participate more in the future since I am still a Cinema 4d newbie and am more a reader than a poster.
Also got here through renderosity.

Just to add my vote,.
This forum is my first stop everyday.
It is very balanced compared to the other English cinema forums(Postforum seems to have become a joke, lately.
I find I get a lot more out of this than the other C4d forums (of course , I have no idea how the german forums fair.)
I also like the format,... you can easily print a whole thread, add images etc.
Plus there are great people here.
cheers to the forum
Zoogie
yeah on post forum you have th problem of having to read though evey post you can not see the whole thread which makes life hard.
also my first or second stop in the morning. and my homepage too.
