Delgo behind the scenes

Many of your have heard the Buzz of "Delgo" from a young studio going by the name Fathom Studios. I've had the great pleasure of speaking with some of the staff behind this upcoming feature length animated film on it's beginnings and it's growing success. This is a must read

Read the interview here (http://www.3dfestival.com/story.php?story_id=1055)

enjoy!

Nice.

I was wondering what had happened to Delgo. I was about to suggest adding to to the "Animations Never Completed" thread.

Wow. They're like cooler versions of some characters I came up with. I hope the film does well.

Good interview,

But I was wondering did they answer any other questions?

Particularly, how many people are actually working on the film?

What was their budget?

Is the film being financed totally internally? Or are their outside investors?

If there are outside investors or venture capital, who are they?

Are all their animators working onsite in Atlanta?

How is their production managed? Do they use any type of production management software, or is it all paper pencil and gant charts?

Guess it does look kinda like that. still curious though.

I hope these guys do really well! Also very cool that they are in Atlanta. Not in the Hollywood loop. Hope they get good distribution.

Great interview man.
They have a ton of cool ass imagery in this dont they!
Also it is nice to see a smaller group working on this. Gives it a really personal feel of their studio.........hmmmmmmmm. (Thinking)

YEs I found it interesting, and initially did not notice it because I remembered the inital teaser trailer being average. But the new work has certainly improved in quality. Two things which I have on my mind:

What defines independant films. There are so many ways to look at this. For example, Pixars films were distributed by Disney, but the studio itself was and still might be a soley owned company (I think it has gone public in the last few years). So that could be independant, but then again, Disney did provide financial backing, and they are major players. Does a studio nessessarily have to own you to be mainstream? Or is it just based on the amount of money that makes you 'independant' or not. If you look at the 'Sundance Festival' for example, which is (some will say 'used') to be the 'Oscars' of the independant film industry; it has grown to a point where there are major studios backing small films or big films with small budgets mixing it up with the smaller guys. So can you call them independant films. The line is becoming rather fuzzy if you ask me.

Secondly, I find most animated films, and actually most hollywood regular films, have great production values, but the key ingedient, the story is mis-managed grossly. This is a result of a 'me too' philosophy and a lack of courage. Pixar has been able to break that mold in a sense, but that is more to do with great characterisations. And if you look at Disney and the terrible situation they are in, you can really blame that on script more than anything. There are changes made with films, but they are so often just window dressing. Now I don't know much of the story of Delgo, but from my first impressions I am a bit worried that it is going down that same 'save the planet' road. I hope I am wrong, as it is very encouraging to see the non-mainstream studios creating content and hopefull succeeding.

Good luck to all concerned, and I will definately pay my £10 to see it on the cinema screen.
