View Full Version : Parenting Cluster Deform

I've modeled a nurbs fish, and it has a very basic rig (nothing special).

I have a Cluster Deformer control a single vertex for the Eyebrow.

When I move my fish around the Cluster Icon "C" stays in it's original spot, but doesn't deform the fish.

I tried Grouping and/or Parenting the Deformer to the rig, but that Deforms my mesh when I move the fish around.

Question: How do I get the Deformer to move with my rig, but not deform the mesh?

I'd appreciate any comments.

Thanx

Here is an explanation and a solution :

A cluster is a deformer that acts like a transform node. Therefore your vertex attached to the cluster is moved by both the cluster's transform node and your fish's transform node.
So if you parent your cluster to your fish, the vertex will be influenced by the fish and the cluster, which creates a double transformation : if you move the whole thing 2 units in X your vertex will move 4 units in X.

The solution is to tell the cluster's transform node to take the fish (its parent) as its reference and not the world coordinate.
To achieve that you only have to check to box called "Relative" in the cluster attributes. Now you can parent it to the fish !

Hope my english is clear :p
