View Full Version : How can I make Velvet in C4D ???
bobtronic 04-15-2003, 02:58 PM Hi,
I am Bob and this my first post to
the C4D forum. I love the movie
"Shrek" and I ask myself how can
I make velvet like Princess Fionas
dress is made of. I use C4D R8
so maybe SLA is the key.
I appreciate every hint.
best regards, Bob

Well, start by looking closely at real velvet, and noting idiosyncratic qualities in a number of different lighting situations.
Part of the solution will probably be putting a bhodinut fresnel shader in the luminance channel. This will simulate the edge lit appearance of velvet, caused by the nap of the fabric.

I am gonna have to send you to maxon's web site they have a good velvet tutorial over there if you can't find exactly where it is look in the tutorials sub forum for the link to maxon's tutorials.

Bhodinut Fresnel is definitely the answer. I used it in the color and luminance channels to good effect on some pillows i needed to create recently.

that said that is a totally SLA tutorial. chanlum was not used in it.
so i would also check out chanlum which can be found here

this is a really good plugin for making velvet things.

I have played a bit with ChanLum today and think its
the right shader for velvet. Now I have to tweak the
highlights.
