I'm setting up some misss fast skin shaders and I'm new to Mental Ray shaders. I setup a light rig for my character, but some of the lights, such as an ambient light for the mouth and a spec light for the iris are not obeying light linking. What confuses me is that other lights like the ambient on his eyes are light linking just fine. I googled the problem, and read some older forums where people mentioned that the misss shaders don't read light linking and that the light linking mode needs to be set to: 1 = use all lights, 2 = only linked lights, 3 = all lights except linked lights. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work either. Then I read that you have to connect the message attribute of the light's shape node to the shader's light attribute. But I couldn't find either of these things. Does anyone know what the current state of light linking is for Mental Ray in Maya 8.0? Any info would be very much appreciated. I need to get this work done, and I'm starting to pull my hair out. Many thanks in advance!
