Hi!

This is my first Cg-Challenge.

I entered this challenge to improve my skills, so comments are very welcome!

I used google to find some images, this are the one I used.

Extracted mapping Image...

I like the bay area and the island in the middle. With camera movement you should get a nice feeling of high and distance.

Thats the idea of my outpost..

Here is a sketch of a droid they support ships and have an eye on the outpost.

This is the ship, which lands on the small plattform.

Camera movement and animation... Perhaps i've to change this one later.

..here is the latest update.

I've finished the outpost modell. :)
I used a faked GI in addition with ambient occlusion, for a first trial rendering.

Hey, thanks! :)

Azazel you are right. The textures, shadows, lighting.. will soon follow. There is still much to do. ;)

Wow,

I'm impressed by the sketches and how well you translated them into 3D. Nice work!

Was there an anim I missed that showed the camera movement?

I gather you wrapped the texture of your backplate to the geometry using UVW mapping? I've tried that on mine, and just don't get satisfactory results. There is always just a little stretching, and I don't have time to get it tweaked. My camera won't be moving unless I fake it in post-production. :thumbsdow

Nice job!

Thanks Bischofftep! :)

I tried the UVW Mapping first, but the image doesn't project well. Thats why I used camera projection mapping. I changed the camera angle in my animation, but its still not perfect.

Well, here is a textured object. You can see all layers I've used, but I'm not sure if the final image works fine with the background. The layers are rendered at different texture states, they are not finished jet.

Tell me what you think about it. :)

Take a closer look at it...

Only thing lacking are the shadows of the rocks on this smaller landing pad ;) for example. Very nice texturing.

Thanks azazel! :)
I'll fix that shadow problem. What else?
I guess the upper left building needs some attention.

My latest renderconcept is based on a ambient layer influenced by the environment color, diffuse layer, specular layer, GI layer, reflection and occlusion layer. And this layer concept was not satisfying, or is it? I think I've done something wrong, but I cant figure it out. Maybe someone can help me?

Next time I'll start earlier, and finish the challenge.

Love it all!

This, to me anyway, had kind of a Doug Chang feel.

Great work!

DUDE!

That totally ROCKED!

The animation is great, the compositing was superb fo the shot, and I would STRONGLY suggest that you add it to your reel man!
