Hi all,

I finished my demoreel since some days.

I used 3dsmax/Vray for architectural rendering, Pflow and Afterburn for smoke effects and Softimage XSI for the other shots (globally I would rather use XSI…). I made all excepting some modeling (vegetation and some architectural props). For compositing, I used Fusion.

Quicktime h.264 version HERE (http://www.cg-yod.com/demo/lionel_reel2k7_med.mov) (right click and save taget as...)

www.cg-yod.com (http://www.cg-yod.com) with a direct link...

I added a breakdown about XSI PARTICLES TEXT (http://www.cg-yod.com/pics/makingof/xsiparticles_test.mov)

And some shots :

5 Stars!!!
I real real have a question!!!

I really want to know :

how can you make the simply model and simply render look like real

I think you know what I mean,

your movie just make me belive it is real, the camera shake, the DOF,the so on,

what's the secret?

maybe you message me and tell me, thanks a lot!

your reel is really great!

5 stars again! cheers!

ragdoll, jigu, MistaT and stefanosoik : Thank you very much for comments :)

sundog : There is no secret! It's very simple in fact. Just use the power of compositing:thumbsup: I add some effect like camera shake, dof, highlight. I try to work a lot on colorimetry (sometimes using normal map...). I take the time to animate all that!

Maybe some people will be interested by this breakdown...

excellent breakdown!
I just waiting for your reply online(now is am 2:30),haha,thank you very much!good man!
I want to give you 5* twice!

before you tell me ,I am not believe that you animate they(like the high light) all manual,

now I am searching some infomation about "Colorimetry",I never heart this before,
does it means "colorcorrect" node in "SHAKE"?

and I think you must had analyzed so many real photo,
I found you just make the eyes feeling very correct and comfortable,

That what I admire you! keep it on!
thanks again!

hey one more question : For what the RGV matte pass was? how does it help in compositing?

Thanks,
-J.

stefanosoik : For this scene, I used 2 lights and a little of IBL. I made a sort of lightning setup (usually I use 3 lights and more...).

sundog : Thank you very much, I think that I must still and still progress on rendering and compositing...
"Colorimetry" is just a general term. But yes, in compositing you can use colorcorrect node (all the compositing soft have a colorcorrect node ;) )

helsing : Thanks

jigu : RGB matte pass help me to isolate some objects in compositing. Here, I thought that I could change colorimetry of black pearl shaders, base and luminova (part of watch which shine in the night :)). With Mentalray and XSI it's very simple to do this since version 6. Just configure a "Render channel" (sort of 3dsmax "Render element") with RGB color and XSI output this data in render pass.
Usually I make render channel to have a lot of freedom in compositing...

Awesome work! Five stars for me.
You reached high quality in several domains, that's great. Very nice photorealistic rendering, good cam plan, good fx, and I espacialy apreciate the dirrectoring, and intro.
Can't wait to see some making of, it could be very intersting.
Keep it up Yod!

Thanks for reply!

Some people ask me "how did you make text effect on intro?”. I try to explain this method in general:)
It's very easy. On my demo, I use 3dsmax and Pflow. You have just to make your text shape and take this object as emitter object. "Freeze" the birth of particles when you have any (you must find the good balance between particles size and rate). Next, use a "deflector" object to make a collision test and so, animate this with some turbulence.
I'll post some video ex. to show you this method...and maybe some other breakdown if you're interested!

See you later!

Very good reel. Doesn't get boring and is very entertaining.

Those pink arrows were very awesome =p

Could you make it with XSI?

YoD
11-22-2007, 11:12 AM
ok,

As a lot of people knows, XSI isn't the best soft on the earth about particles simulation. It's relatively difficult to take in hand (contrary to Pflow for exemple...). But method is the same. Recently, I tried to make text fx with XSI and I success, more easily that I tought... I'll post a little breakdown to show you

XSI PARTICLES TEXT (http://www.cg-yod.com/pics/makingof/xsiparticles_test.mov)

voila! :)

Hey, thanks for comment and reply ! I didn't know this address, and there are a lot of great stuff here !

For compositing and pass use, you can buy some books. I think about "Digital Compositing for Film and Video" second edition of Steve Wright for exemple (Amazon here (http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Compositing-Film-Video-Second/dp/024080760X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1197532477&sr=8-1)). There are a lot of other books...
You must learn what pass you must use in some situation to gain time in your work. I think that you must take a "easy scene" and test, test, test compositing, pass, etc...

Most definitely an excellent piece. Overall it was really appealing the cinematography was really interesting, I enjoyed your transitions. The only thing I guess out of it all was just the headphones looked a little too shiny.

Hi YOD . how did you creat the dust with defocused effect in the title short? it's rendered with lens shaders or been done in post?

guess that bokeh effects come from fusions defocus filter..
