Ok - here is something WIP,
the model is the great ninja model from ACS4 but resurfaced.

The scene needs something else but i am not sure what ?

In my opinion:

- The shadow of character is to much raytraced... use soft shadows on add a little blur on shadows.

- If you add a volume light back the characer with cast shadows the result will be better...

-Improve the texture of the rocks where is the character, you can add more datail or use multiple texture....

What's the software?

First is your image is looking really good.

Since your source light is from behind the character, I would think that the cahracter would have less light in front of him, possible more silhouetted with some glow behind him, maybe a rim light or something.

the light seems to be right behind the character, yet the shadow falls to the left.

the light is behind those moutains (?) yes they are not affected by the light, casting no shadow onto themselves or something like that.
