View Full Version : Free Watershader / Seashader C4D 9.5+
Gentle 11-14-2007, 10:36 PM Cinema hasn't got a Seashader? Now, here we go! :-)
I give you my water shader as a present, you can modify it, improve it, abuse it ... whatever. You even can use it for commercial purposes, but it would be nice to say that in the credits.
Actually I wanted to develop it for an animation, but this turned into a dead project, and before this shader is just sitting around on my hard drive, I want to share it with you, hopefully many people have a use for it.
Yeeeeah, what can I say, it's a shader you can use either for stills or for animations, it's due to its 100% procedurally nature totally animateable.
The shader's got quite huge render times, and maybe some beginners can have a look behind the scenes, how complex shaders are constructed.
By the way, there's a cube with three helping objects, which produce little waves around the cube's motion, via Proximal shader.
In the editor you can choose between the line mode or the gouraud-shading-mode, for the second one, you have to wait a couple of minutes until cinema constructed a preview of the shader. After this, you can access the scene fluidly again. :)

Wow, thanks! If I can get results like in your image, I will be thrilled.
Does this work in the core version of C4D? Or do you need a module or two?
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Tobias,
Thanks for sharing! I gave it a try and the results look really nice, indeed. But ouch, those render times are fierce. Time to upgrade my hardware... :)

Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
Hi,
Just wondering if there was another version of the shader that
wasn't compressed to a .rar file. I can't uncompress it on a windows
box. Or I don't know how to without purchasing a piece of
software.
Any ideas?

You can also get the free UnRAR.exe command-line utility (http://www.bestfreewaredownload.com/download/t-free-unrar-for-windows-freeware-jpasberb.html).
I've been using that for years and it's actually extremely simple to use. Initially, run the unrarw32.exe file that you download which will uncompress and install the UnRAR.exe utility on your hard drive (by default it would go in "Program Files\UnRAR"). But an even better way would be to just put the UnRAR.exe file somewhere that's already in the PATH, like the "\Windows" folder or the "\Windows\System32" folder. Alternately, you can just temporarily put a copy of the UnRAR.exe file into the RAR archive file exists that you want to uncompress. Whatever you prefer - it all works.
Then, at a command prompt (console) you can use "cd" as needed to change the directory to the archive folder and then just type:
UnRAR x *.rar
(the "x" option preserves any folder hierarchy - like the one in the WaterShader archive). If you want to know anything else about the available options, just type "UnRAR" and hit return - it will list all its options and their descriptions.

ExtractNow is my decompresser of choice, even has a plugin to enable it to handle Stuffit files (sit) on the PC. The nicest part about it though is it's speed (and that it's free of course).
All,
Thanks for the quick feedback. I didn't realize there were so many
choices, I selected the ExtractNow program. Wow that was
super simple. I love programs that just uninstall and work. No rebooting
or registery this/that...
Anyway, thanks for the help... Now I'm off to figure out the shader.
Have a great weekend.

Gentle - that really is a generous posting, and the water shader has a lovely 'toy story' feel to it, unfortunately, it's more or less completely un usable due to its slow processing time to render.
I'm on a couple of oct processing systems and it gives them a headache even.
