View Full Version : Bandsaw Tool?
powerwave3d 04-15-2003, 01:56 AM Is there a tool in Max similar to the Bandsaw tool in Lightwave? I see the QuickSlice tool but that's only good for simple straight cuts. If you aren't familar with Lightwave. The Bandsaw tool slices through polys that are in a row, it'll zip around a fairly complex shape in 1 operation.
I'm doing the Joan of Arc Tutorial and to sit here and click, Cut..Cut..Cut to manually make all the cuts seems a bit old school to me. A tool like Bandsaw would make short work of it.
Thanks

If you are on Max version 5.0 theres a maxscript called MeshTools Version3 on the CD somewhere under extras I think .
MeshTools has different options in its tool-set like spliting poly or selected poly's by 2 or 3 etc. or connect or, or, or ,so many options ;)
If your on max 4 then you might want to try MeshTools Version 2.5
http://www.scriptspot.com/download.asp?ID=619&inf=1
if that doesnt work then I suggest you try www.scriptspot.com
and search the database for a script that might do what your asking.

If you work in edit polys you can grab an edge, hit "ring" in the modifier level and then right click and connect.;)

i think this is one of those "i completely underestimate max" questions. why is it that no one seems to think max has any of these old tools, like the whole connecting two edges together is some novel idea. its been in there since r4.
sorry, didnt mean to bust ur balls, nothin personal dude, im prolly way off base here. i apologize
EDIT: and download cleancut, its as intuitive as mayas cut tool, this script will definately be integrated in the next release.

Not a problem. I'm new to Max. We just got it at work and I don't have access to any of the material (cd's, books) that came with it. It's all controlled by the IT department and it's a network license (we have 90). I'm using 5.1.
I'll try that cleancut and see if I can some how locate that meshtools thing.
I figured that it was just my lack of knowledge that was hampering and frustrating me so I figured I'd ask you guys:)
Thanks again.

na... don't use version 3 of meshtools. It's a stripped down sucky version.
Go to www.scriptspot.com and search for Meshtools 2.5 and install that. Get csPolyTools while your there also.
If you want download this little script I whipped together, unzip it and put it in the \3dsmax5\UI\macroscripts dir. All you have to do is select a edge and use the script. It will do a edge ring and connect with one click.
Just put the button in a quad or something... bind it to a key? anything you want.
Get it here (http://www.visualboo.com/misc/scripts/RingConnect max 5.zip)
Hope this helps
