maybe a stupid question but how do i make nice mirrormaterial
with the default render in 3ds max ?

Use a raytrace material type.
Set the reflective parameter to something other than zero.
Kablam! Mirror.

And, if you want to spare some rendering time and and get cleaner results use flat mirror (material). Use raytrace always for curve surfaces, though. Use Flat mirror for perfect flat surfaces or it won´t work. You could use a selection of faces from the same plane as well.

The flat mirror tip is a good advice, definitely use it.
For a 'real life' mirror the base color of the object should be black, and the amount of reflection near 100%
