SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Hi Guys finally done!
Took about 115 hours including everything (from scratch to final render including render time).
Tried to make a simulation where it could be seen both the incredible slow motion wobbling the balloons suffer on impact, how they blow on that straight line and the water behavior. So there's the reason my balloon only pop's at the second impact...
Modeled, lit and rendered in XSI. Simulated with syflex, water simulation RealFlow.
Hope you enjoy it!

SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Basically, I wanted to do something a bit different with my entry. I have a mouse character (modeled by Lisa Illowsky) who is jumping on a water balloon like a trampoline. The balloon pops and the mouse falls. I used Maya for the animation, the PhsyX plugin for the balloon, and Real Flow for the Simulation of the water. I'll be rendering with Mental Ray.

( This is a work in progress, mostly just blocking now. I fell behind due to all kinds of craziness. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46xfUBWhHUY) I should be done by Friday, but the sim is complete at this point.)

Hi Everybody!
For me, the best simultation is undoubtedly Nuno Niza's! I think the "slow motion/ mythbusters style" background is a great idea and add's realism to the whole scene. Also, the wet floor looks good. Congratulations, keep up the good work...

NunoNisa is imho the best simulation.
Yan's is also very good though the shaking head looks strange in slowmo.
In normal speed it looks very convincing.
Floyd Bishop: please finish your entry, the mouse looks so funny already!!!

I really like Yan's entry. I think it shows the whole evet of popping and water reaction the best.
As far as my entry, I hope to finish it in the next week or so. There were so many unforseen things during this challenge that the fates conspired against me. I'll try and get it posted soon.

To me this was more professional entry over all
I also liked artemmironov’s matrix shot, which could be slower and would be cool if water simulation was still happening rather than frozen.

I think, despite one awkwardly-sharp crease at the beginning, it is definitely the most realistic looking and technically impressive simulation. Very good presentation as well. Good work all around though

I'm voting for Yan because he managed to obtain a simulation which is the most closer to a real one. The head movement from the end of it's clip convonced me to vote for it. Definetely my favorite!

NunoNisa: During the balloon hitting the ground and deforming, the motion was approaching correct, but it didn't seem to have the correct conservation of mass. It flattens out like a pancake -- the water inside can't compress that much. That's a really tricky effect to pull off, and you got close, but I don't think it was quite there. The actual splitting of the balloon wasn't quite there, either. The water sim was pretty decent, although what was happening with the water didn't quite match up with what was happening to the balloon, force-wise. But definitely the most ambitious, and you got pretty close. Couple more versions and you could probably get it.
Artem Mironov: Artistically arranged, but a bit of a cheat. The balloon-splitting is greatly simplified, and doesn't hold up real well. The sword-splitting and freeze-frame is cool, but the scale of the water is WAY off. Looks like the balloon is 2 inches tall. Also, missing fine particulate and spray.
yan: Dude, I REALLY like what you had going on at the beginning, but then it goes all wrong. The spray (which looks great and I assume is a separate element) seems to just go out to a certain distance and then fall. The water maintains its shape way too much -- what force split the balloon apart? It would affect the water as well. For it to maintain that exact shape as it falls is no good. It looks like gelatin, far too viscous to be believable. You have all this nice explosive force happening to the balloon itself and the spray, but nothing happening to the concentrated body of water. Then everything stops and falls. What gives? Nice rendering, good touch with the guy (although the model is not well-animated or rendered, and thus distracting), but the sim just lacked follow-through.
Overall though, good show from all you guys.

Hello again
Like im new on this forum i didnt know that i could explan my vote.
What is logic...hehehehe
I took this fx war like a simulation war maybe im wrong.
I voted for YAN : cause i found his work is the best simulation job. I mean if you check the video referencies (wich are amazing and remember how much the human eye is not used to watch water in slow motion, give a feeling of surrealism) he is the closer to the real water reaction.
His "extra" work on the head is just here like a plus and give more difficult collision than a simple flat surface and others water projections by the head motion.
NunoNisa and ArtemMironov : Your work are great!
I just want to say its too much work on the style (render, camera Matrix effect, compositing on picture...) and not enought on the simulation.
The water reaction is like was in my imagination before to check the reel water slow motion, i mean its a projection of human referencies of water : water explod and give a lot of "splach"...what is wrong!!!
A big clap clap clap to all the artist who participated to this fx war, is not so easy to do something good in so little time. Critic is easy, Art is harder!
