Hi folks, It seems that the content browser cannot display more than certain amount of .lib4d files. What is the workaround for this issue?

This has been in the forum because I remember seeing it before. But I foget what the answer was.

Thanks for any help.

Maximum is about 14. Move some of the libraries into your User Library.
They will be available as sub-libraries of the User Library.

Remember to keep a back-up of your original (individual) libraries as they will not be available from the Browser directory.

Works fine for me as a temporary workaround. I have about 30 available via the Browser.
Cheers, Alan.

When I come across a library that's showing empty, I've had pretty good luck just going to View > Refresh. Seems to work so far.

Well, refreshing under view doesn't work.

Question for Rantin Al: Can you explain a bit more about the user library because I don't see that folder. Do you have to create one at the same location?

Thanks for the help.

Look in the actual Content Browser > Presets.
There will be a list of libraries which corresponds with the installed libraries in your main Maxon > Library > Browser folder.

In the actual Content Browser, drag any library showing 'invisible' contents down into your User Library. This creates a copy within your User Library. (A sub-library)
Still in the Content Browser, select and delete the original entry which you just dragged from.
This also deletes the library file from the Maxon directory. Hence the suggestion to keep a back up of all your original libraries before doing this.
It may be possible to recover the merged library from the User Library but I haven't tried it yet.

HTH. Cheers, Alan.

The User Library should be in the Presets directory by default.
Open the Content Browser and the User Library should be the last in the list.

In the sample snapshot, I've dragged the CV MoGraph library into the User Library and then deleted the original from the main Preset list.

HTH. Cheers, Alan.

The user library is automaticaly created the first time you save a setting as a preset (File->Save Object Preset from the OM menue for example).
By default it contains all presets you created.

I've got it! Turns out that the user directory is created when you first save object preset. I simply created a cube and saved it as preset then looked in the content brower and there it was.

Apparently I've never saved a preset and this is why I did not see the user library as Rantin Al mentioned in his first reply.

Thanks to both Rantin Al and Srek for the help.

PS. Where do the moved items actually go to in the Maxon Folder under C-program files.?

Glad to help.
I missed that step because I had saved a Tag preset before looking for the User Library. :)

Cheers, Alan.

I'm not realy sure what you are talking about. You do realise that the libraries are collections of presets, objects etc. so you won't see single files but only one file per library?
By moving content from one library to another you don't create any new files, it's only the content of the existing library files that changes.

Please see my explanation in the second post I made.
Moving the libraries into the User Library creates a 'sub-library'.

For this reason, back up the individual, original libraries.

When I got to work this morning, I checked the C:\Program Files\MAXON\CINEMA 4D R10\library\browser and I've located the user.lib4d which is what I was after, thus it did create a brand new file (a single entity).

I take it that C4D content browser actually takes the items and consolidates into the newly created user.lib4d which I assume is the only "creatable" .lib4d.

The reason behind this argument is to be able to backup that newly created .lib4d.

Thanks a bunch, guys.

You can create as many libraries as you want just by choosing so from the CM (File->New Preset Library). The user library is just the default for user presets.
