Though it is not going to be developed further - yes.

Shake is still used in a huge number of VFX companies, and, if you're on a Mac, it's so cheap these days compared to the alternatives...

Learning the concepts of Shake is good for any package you want to go to. And the price is definitely right.
I'd also recommend reading the Ron Brinkmann book - "The Art and Science of Digital COmpositing" as it teach you what any compositing package is doing in theory. It's a great base for an entry level compositor.
