View Full Version : Characters: Sinister Matrix / Animatrix Robots
D. Phoenix 04-14-2003, 04:37 AM Hello, this is a 3D image I did this weekend.
It depicts those evil robots from the animatrix shorts building their city... of evil.
Who knows what sinister plans they envision for mankind.

I used 3ds max 4.2 for the modelling along with a toon shader for outline. Also used was Photoshop for color correction and EVIL lightning composite.
commentary welcome as always.

pretty damned good.
Can I see a wireframe? The building is pretty cool.

Totally agree, the building is really well done
I just got a semi-bad opinion about that drawing, well, if the rain is falling like that there must be lots of wind, which should act on the smoke too.
Try to make a less compact smoke, that's my 2 cents for today :o)

Although the robot design is very simple, the overall look of the scene is great. Everything fits together pretty well.
What about a short animation?
The robots design is the same as in "The Second Renaissance Pt. I". I like them, especially their strange mouth-thing.

That's really cool. The only thing I think is bad is the pose the robots are in. They look off ballance and like they are walking very strangly. I think their back legs should be straight. Other than that I really like it. You did this all in a weekend? How many hours do you think it took all together?

Cool but it didn't start out as a city of evil. Very cool work.

Nothing in the work says it's a "city of evil". I think he was just "being funny" in his description. The picture has an ominous feeling, not an evil one.

I know, I was just being silly back. Though it does bring an interesting question...were the machines really bad or were they simply retaliating to the things done to them? Ah well, the image Rocks regardless.

I don't know, but just in case I think we should all burn our microwaves and our computers. My toaster too, it burnt my waffles the other day. Bastard.

Thanks for the helpful feedback.
Edin: Here's the wire. Fairly simple overall but a pain to load up due to polygon count. (1.6 million with robots)

mental|disease: yea their mouth style is actually quite expressive at times in that video.
were the machines really bad or were they simply retaliating to the things done to them?
Teyon: Hmm not sure. We'll have to wait until May when they finally show mankind getting wasted by them.
That reminds me, anyone ever play that old Sierra game EarthSiege? Pretty much an identical story... except substitute the Matrix world with Mech Warrior.
