Hi
I'am having some problems. I bought a Quadro4 700xgl off ebay a couple of weeks ago. It's been runnuning fine no problems. I decided to upgrade my cpu I had a 1800xp palimino. Bought a 2400xp t-bred and I installed it. Booted up, went into the bios and set things up, saved went into windows (2000) and everything looked good. After 2 hours my monitor went blank, came back up. Then 10 min later it went blank again but didn't come back. Windows was still running. I hit the reset and went into the bios, the text was garbled, dots an dashes where some letters should be. Tried to get into windows but it wouldn't boot. I shut down and was able to get in safe mode. There were patches of red colors, and the icons had shadows of green, generaly messed up. I uninstalled the drivers 41.09 and reinstalled. Booted up ran fine for 1 hour then same thing.
I've done this a few times, reset card, checked the vga cable, flashed motherboard bios same result. I put my old geforce2 gts back in and it works fine so I beleive the motherboard, agp slot is fine. Both cards were/are running 4x.
I know I dont have a warranty and the card is a little over a year old( bios is 3/12/02), not much I can do about that but I just thought I'd ask to make sure, see what anyone else thinks.
system:
Soyo Dragon Plus KT333CF
2400xp, Volcano9
1gig 2700 samsung ddr
40 gig hd
cdrw
nic card
modem
sound
Enermax 465 (431 watt)
19 inch KDS
4 case fans
temps: Chassis 25, cpu on die 43, cpu external 34
Didn't smell anything cooked on the card and visually inspected it.
Anything I can try or check for? Or is it just going? Could putting the new cpu in have caused some power spike or problem? Overheating gpu somehow?

Sorry this is so long, just wanted to be clear.
Thanks for your time.

I have the same card and it was giving me the same problem. But its not the video card its the driver. This 41.09 driver release is to buggy. Update to the current driver the 43.45 i have no problems with it.

dsamarin,

Is it occuring only have an extended period of time?

Is it happening only when the machine is idle? Or while your using it as well?

Can you speed up the process? Do us a favor, download 3dmark 2001 SE (from www.futuremark.com) and run a benchmark loop 10 times, see if you can get the error to occur faster. (The benchmark stresses the card). You can also use specviewperf, but that takes a hella of a lot longer to download.

If 3dmark 2001 SE causes this to happen EXTREMELY quickly, it means...

1) There is a fundamental problem with your card, either its ram or gpu.

This however might be attributed too...

a) Greater then normal heat buildup in the Ram/GPU

Which can be solved by....

Reconiguring the card's cooling solution.
Cleaning off the old thermal grease/pad and using artic silver
Adding additional exhaust/cooling around the video card (PCI slot blower), or for a tempoary test, try removing the side of the case, and blowing a box fan or other large fan over the video card. (Keep at least 3-4 ft away from the machine).

RMA'in the video card.

I'd also consider carefully inspecting to the card to verify its a real PNY Quadro4 700XL.

Try that stuff and get back to us.

Hi
"is it occuring only have an extended period of time? "
6 days before changing cpus (was 1800xp) I'd played a game for several hours (Combat Mission Demo) to give it a test, pretty graghic intensive, no problems. (I don't play games).
After this occured after change of cpu, 2400xp, it varied, 1 to 2 hours at idle. No significant load on the gpu.

I'll try 3dmark and see what happens. I'll give the Artic Silver a try too.

I did try running with the case open, but no fan. I think I have pretty good airflow in the case, cables tied up, good ventilation.

The person I bought the card from had bought from a company that said the part# was VCQ4700XGL-PB, I beleive thats a retail PNY.
I've inspected the card for damage. It looks to be Identical to the pictures I've seen of PNY Quadro4 700xgl
What could I look for that would tell me it's PNY? ??
Will it say PNY anywhere, or some specific #'s.??

Could the video card bios come into issue at all (corrupted)??

Thanks very much for taking the time to help. I use Houdini Apprentice and going from a Geforce2 GTS 32mb (softquadro) to this card was like heaven, very painful to go back. :(

I'd like to ask 1 more question just in case my baby has gone for good. Would a normal Geforce TI4200 ( without softquadro) be usable? Would it at least compare?
I'am not real hopeful and it might be all I could afford for now.

ive got the same card. And i had the same problem.
Well almost anyway. i could boot into windows, but i had strange dashes and dots superimposed onto the picture!
Well i have a 3year warranty, and so i called support to have the card replaced.
it turned out that the card had come just a tiny bit loose when i installed a harddrive some days earlier. So i hadnt really needed to get a replacement card. (which i did anyway- its nice with a good warranty).
So maybe you should check that out as youve been digging around in the computer, and the quadro seems to be very sensitive about sitting just right.
well just my 2 cents. hope it works out well for ya

I have similar problems with my quadro4 750xgl.
after few minutes that I run qindows Xp, I start to see
yellow lines or blue points everywhere on my monitor and sometime an error message appear and
I have to restart the pc.
Also whern I restart I have a lot of visualization problem even during the boot or the bios setup.
I thinks that the video card is damaged.
Do anyone else had the same problem? could be a
compatibility problem with my motherboard? (asus p4g8x).
The maximum resolution that I can get in the property is 1280x1024 is it normal? shouldn't it be grater?
thanks
Biagio
