It's a great image but doesn't fit the criteria for the challenge, only possible in the digital world.

Thanks for the comment Phoenix1. I had a lot of fun creating this image.

Biliousfrog: How else would this image be created without the "digital world"?

Did you create that image, Medicine Horse? I actually came across that image when doing research on this topic. It was part of my inspiration, among many other microscopic images, textbooks, and engineers at my place of work. If you did create it, great job!

It is something that exists in real life therefore it cannot only exist in a virtual world:
"Artists are challenged to create images of the most Amazing Creations. We want to see images that capture the essence of something that could only exist in a virtual world. This embodies the most powerful attraction of digital art – its ability to create truly amazing things that can not exist in the real world."
I think that medicine horse was pointing out this:
"Rule #3, All entries must be original. No derivative works will be accepted."

You make a good point, However glass, liquid, light all exist in the "real" world, which are being used in many of these pieces for the competition. Also this image is only an artistic rep. of how we think chromosomes appear.
