Yeah beaker...thanks for all the help...annoyed: (cough) Iucking Fdiot (cough)...IN case you didn't know this is a HELP FORUM why don't you go to word one, word two and look up what those two words mean... (I even linked it for you) If they those links don't work here's the URL www.dictionary.com. Then when you have a firm grasp of the meanings of those two words...then post a message here that fits within those guidelines...Until then don't post.

Bad Karma: It means to "Read The F*Manual"(RTFM).
There are plenty of tutorials in the manual on Maya Live to get you started. It is an extremely overlooked source of learning and reference. People are so ready to look elsewhere for learning the software that they forget to look at something they allready have right in front of them. When you ask extremely general and broad question like "How do I Model" or "How do use a 3d app" or "How do I use Maya Live". Then it is quite obvious that you never even took 5 minutes to press the F1 key, do a little leg work yourself, bring the online html manuals up and read them! After you have read them and tried the basic tutorials that come with the software, then start asking more specific questions that you have.
Flex Giddy: I'm a mod :) I know the rules. You don't need to be rude and call me names of profanity.

Heeey now why are we all pickin on Giddy. If hitting F1 solves all problems then why would Aliaswavefront make tutorial movies on Maya Live? and why would we have forums like these? I realize he asked a broad question and I don't mean to be rude to any of the Mods here but I too have had snotty replies from Beaker that were of no help at all where I was told to 'do it myself'. I just think that if theres nothing you can say to help then you shouldn't say stuff like that because its discouraging and all it does is put us down. Or at least be polite about it instead of saying "read the f'n manual." .. Just say "have you looked in the help files yet?" or something like that.. how do you know he didn't already do that?
Again, just throwing in my two cents. Sorry if I offended.
-Tom N.
However I'd have to say that calling mods f'n idiots is kind of a harsh response tho..haha but that was after the fact anyways:surprised

Calling anyone, whether they are a mod or not, a f'ing idiot is rude and uncalled for, no matter what the circumstances.
Quite frankly I wouldn't offer my help to someone with no manners who responds to peoples words with such obscenity.

Leigh.... I'm sorry for the profanity that I used. I’m not sorry for my attitude. ( beaker annoyed me and that was my attitude) I don’t mean that as a slap, slam, or whatever other negative slang you could apply to that statement. I'm just a little sick of people responding to everything with RTFM... That’s rude in it's self. (If you want to talk about manners here beaker) You could have simply asked politely if I’ve read the manual and then taken things from there… Do you have any clue what I have done before I posted? I doubt it. I've read them and have watched videos on it by Aliaswavefront themselves and others... It's a general question because I generally still don't quite understand Maya Live... And as a mod, beaker, you above all should realize that that type of response doesn’t help. And above all you should be a model poster. By using profanity yourself in the overly used acronym RTFM, (since you know the rules so well) it becomes the classic case of monkey see monkey do. I can elaborate more on that saying if you need me to. I’m sure that if you ask other mods here and on other sites they’ll say the same thing. Get what I’m saying? I'm just tired of people like you that think, by hitting four measly buttons on a keyboard, that they're helping...Well to all that do, it’s not, not at all.

hey Leight, I agree, but wouldn't you also agree that saying "read the f'n manual" is kind of uncalled for as well?
Even if someone asks the dumbest question on EARTH, I don't think we should say things to discourage them.

Leigh,
Read beaker's first post. What does the f stand for again in RTFM? Now that also is rude and uncalled for. I don't care to take help or help myself from anyone that uses profanity in a response to what I write either. So, Leigh, on that I guess we're on the same page.

Sorry to butt in but I always thought the 'F' in "RTFM" stood for Read The Fine Manual....
I'm going now. Bye.

I agree that RTFM manual can seem offensive to some people, but I think that over time it's kinda become a normal every-day phrase, not really meant in any condescending manner, although I know that a lot of people do interpret it as being offensive :)
Or at least, that's how I see it :)
I usually recommend people to firstly read the manual as well, I must admit, although I personally never use the RTFM acronym as I know it can seem a bit off putting to some people, but the thing is that all too often so many people do overlook the manuals for some reason.
Perhaps Beaker didn't mean to be offensive
I can't say for sure :)
But let's just put this one to rest now, since you've got some videos to watch now anyway, so the thread did serve a purpose ;)

Leigh,
So what you're saying is that since many use that "every-day phrase" that makes it okay? So profanity used in a day-to-day phrase is okay but any other type of profanity isn't? (both rhetorical questions) I get it now, I don't agree, but I get it. This tread did have a purpose; witch was to help me find tutorials on Maya Live. I've watched the videos before this post and everything and I still questions...Yay for me. (That was just a little sarcastic humor, no offence)

MY point was more than I don't think that Beaker meant to offend, that's all.
Like I said, I don't personally use that phrase, since I prefer to use a more subtle approach, but I don't think that people really use it to offend, generally speaking. It's just the stock-standard reply
At any rate, let's really just forgive and forget :) No use in splitting hairs about this one anymore, there are lots more important things to do :D

I don't forgive and I won't forget. But I'll let it go cause you asked nicely.....Thank you for acting how a mod should.
Let's try and get this thread back on track. Now does anyone know where I find some Maya Live tutorials? I've been through the manual. Anywhere else?

but asking "Anyone know how to use Maya Live ..." generally gives the impression that you have absolutely no clue and didn't even bother to read the manual
as the Wolf would say it - not as subtle as Leigh would probably -
So pretty please, with sugar

If I had specific questions I would ask them. If you would like a question that I had when I was watch the videos and from the manual. Okay here it is "...What?". Is that more helpful and specific? Personally I don't think that would be helpful so now I was more specific in my last quote, if you read it. Which was does anyone know where I can find some tutorials on Maya Live. What I forgot to add was except the obvious places. But I do understand where you're coming from though. Thanks.

At the end of the day if you press F1 and read/do the instant Maya Unlimited tutorials on Maya Live it will probably answer 95% of your question quicker then posting on here.

this mass thread of animals, all started from the reason why this forum is around, to help people flex asked a question (im sure people have asked b4), n someone was rude in answering (like im sure people have dont b4).
- it all goes back to the age old saying "if you havent got anything nice to say then dont say anythign at all" that goes for this situation too.
and flex RTFM :D

...Wow you guys are still going on about this? Let it go. BadKarma and Kabab if you've read any of the previous post at all before posting yourselves you would know that I have read the manual. If the manual was so great then what is this site doing up then? Why are there any other sources of help? So I guess what I'm saying is THIS IS A HELP FORUM.

Yes I too have an oppinion about the use of RTFM term.
(Just learned it a minute ago)
well, that acronym has an offensive nature to it (imho) and should not be used by any moderators. There is no excuse (imho).
Who'd like to read something like this in a post?...
SALAQ (created in this moment, no real acronym I think)
Take a guess at this :) heehee
(ok, it is pretty more offensive than rtfm, but still, acronyms aren't neccessarily "harmless" )
I would't want that as an semi-offensive term to be used on a whim. The only time "I" have flamed on a board were against apparently-inane-semi-pro-war-supporters.

now now... children. I think RTFM is great advice. The best thing i've ever learned is self sufficiency. Tutorials are good, too, though. Maybe the thread has gotten out of hand. Some people need to be adult enough to take what people say with a grain of salt... my 2 cents.
FlexGiddy
04-17-2003, 05:26 AM
undseth,
You make some sense I think. I have no idea what your acronyms mean so that makes it a little tuff. But I think we're on the same page.
sizzlebits,
If everyone were an adult about everything on this site then that acronym would not be used at all now would it? Even by people that are as mature as you seem to be. (sarcasm) Why can't that acronym be made even simpler for folks such as yourself and just use RTM instead? Doesn't that one seem like more adult and professional like?
Flex
P.S. My thread, this poor, poor thread.

man 3 pages and pretty much nothing about maya live...honestly either this thread should be deleted and started over again...or someone actually give some useful information we can all enjoy.
cuz for 1 thing maya live can go way fourther than the f1 tut menu just like everything else in maya. its just a little get started thing
and if flex already knows the basics then the tut probally wouldn't help much...so would someone help him already... cuz i can't since i'm just learning maya and a i have characters to texutre and rig and animate for my short film.
