Hi!

Is there any way you can move the center of a selection?Something like moving the pivot of an object?
Let's say I have a row of vertexes selected and I want to rotate them.Normally the center of rotation will be at the middle distance of the vertexes (the center of selection). But I don't want to rotate them around the center of the selection, but around one of the outermost vertexes, or just rotate them around one of the vertexes from the selection?
Thank you in advance!

Best regards!

Doh, I'm using Maya, sorry I can't be of any help. But I'm sure there's a ton of seasoned max users lurking around.

i belive something like this was introduced with the latest version of max(the first feature highlight _here_ (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=9997279)).. but maybe you can change the way it calculates the 'centre' like the median point of the selection, bounding box centre etc.

PS. maybe you should have asked this in _here_ (http://forums.cgsociety.org/forumdisplay.php?f=6)

Yes, as far as I know, up to this point you haven't been able to do what you are asking in Max. I haven't tried 2008 yet, but if they've finally added this functionality it will be fantastic. Maybe there's a plug-in I haven't found, but I'm pretty sure Max 7 cannot do what you are asking. :(

I mean this in a very nice way, but if Maya can do it, so can max. Just a matter of finding the right keystroke.

I hope you're right and I'm wrong, but I've dug through the help file and looked online and haven't found any indication that this can be done. As far as I know max doesn't allow you to choose a pivot in subselection mode. I can change the pivot of the object itself, but I can't find a way to make the subselection use that pivot (and it would be a pain anyway to have to keep changing the object's pivot point every time you'd like to do this.)
Bump, Bump...

Anybody?

It is possible, and here is the answer :

"The 'Reference Coordinate System' pulldown menu (right beside the scale tool, if you are using the default GUI).
Use 'Pick', and click on the object in a viewport.
Then select 'Use Transform Coordinate Center', That will make the selection use the pivot of the object that you just picked, instead of it's (the selection) center.

You can move the object pivot while the selection is active without losing the selection as many times as you want. Just go between the hierarchy tab and the modify tab.; you have to click on the Edit Poly modifier in the stack to re-activate the selection; but the selection won't be lost by moving the object pivot."

Thank you!
