Title: HH-60G PAVE-HAWK ENGINE WARMUP
Name: Andre Cantarel
Country: Germany
Software: 3ds max, finalRender, Photoshop

Sorry for posting this model again here, I hope it is ok.
Finally I found some time to do a final rendering which really fits to the idea I had in my head for a long time: Warming up the engines with a lot of dust and heatwaves :)

All is done with 3ds max 9 (modeling was done in 8) and finalrender Stage-1. I used raytraced depth of field, 3D motion blur for the rotors + particles and micro-triangle-displacement for the ground.

Here´s a highres version of the rendering:

http://www.cantarel.de/cgtalk/wip/pavehawk/pavehawk/warmup_V01.jpg

Maybe an animation of this shot follows but first I have to dig through TP2.5 again (and hopefully have the time).

I hope you like it :)
Cheers
André

Great work!! Textures are cool and the realism level is very high. The only thing I can say is the third helicopter from the camera, is a lil bit confusing on the very first seeing. I thought it was three helicopters, a second later you count again and there are 4.

Very nice, 4 stars!!

One question, does finalrender have it's own sky or the sky is a background image ?

I've never use finalrender, you make me start using finalrender hehehe:D

omg! that's awesome! Did you do the heatwaves in Photoshop? if you did them in 3D - how?

how many Ghz-hours did this take to render? and you want to make an animation out of it - you surely have a decent machine :)

Just great.. the texture work and the heat haze is fantactic, I would have like to see the Crew or troops runnin to the choppers with the heads down and wind lashing them from the down draft. but as it is its a easy 4.5 stars. so I will give ya 5 :) great work as usual :)
I just love this stuff. :D

I don't post on here very often, but I think this deserves a masive congratulations, and a small request if you have the time...

could you make a tutorial on how you created this image? I'd love to know how you made the heat distorsion. It's just a really great image.

I look forward to finding out it is done.

Wow, it's not very often that I actually comment on work in the gallery, but this render really caught my eye. Your attention to detail is really impressive and I love the colour palette and mood of the image. Even though your camera angle isn't particularly imaginative, your image still has a sense of drama. I love the light blooms and dusty feel.

Great work.

Whats the point of making a photoreal image?

This and Beowulf make me sick there is no point to it. Where is the humanity?
Just kidding.:)

That is freakin incredibly awesome! Great Job! I'm going to be keeping a eye out for more of your future work.

Fantastic work!!

One small thing that bugs me, and I emphasize small, is the pilot in the central chopper looks a bit doll like (his face looks a bit strange almost manaquin like)- not too conviced by him. Other- wise supurb work mate.

haha plugged again. And for all the right reasons... I knew from the momment I saw the thumb, surly thats the same Blackhawk I saw way back when...

Simply amazing. Great render to add to the others, but PLEASE, if your skills allow you to do quality animation, dont let the opportunity go to waste. Use this model and make one more work of art out of it to seal the deal. Its well worth your time if/when you can spare it. This is simply amazing.

I've seen probably a million cg renders. This is simply the most impressive realistic still I've ever seen posted. I really thought the first image was the reference image. I think you just helped sell about 5000 Final Render packages. I hope they give you a cut.

11-09-2007, 10:19 PM
Very impressive... 100% realistic IMO. 5*
They're the same ones you used in the animation? That animation was fantastic btw. Anyway, heat waves work really well too, great job!

11-09-2007, 10:35 PM
I've given this a little consideration.....
I think this is the best render I've ever seen to date.

If there was an annual version of the Oscars for CGI work, you'd have just won one.
Mind blowing realism, superb modelling and texturing and amazing final compositon.

My one question... what was the render time and what are your machine specs ?

jsolson
11-10-2007, 12:47 AM
This is a great artwork piece. 5 stars all the way. one thing that i see, that could make it better. "exhaust gas", when the engine sucks in the air and the air get heated, it creates a wave distortion when it comes out the back. if you already thought of it, then its not that noticable. Cant wait to see more of your work.

What do you think of Final Render as a render engine. Just want an opinion. Is it quite simple to learn, or is it complicated as Mental Ray?
