There's a controller called "reactor" which Discreet would like you to believe is Max's equivalent of Set Driven Key, but it's far more limited.
It might be good enough for your requirements though, so check out the explanation in the online help.

I found it !!! and i've been playing with it for an hour now and I see what you mean by far more limited, I'm trying to add a roll attribute to control a foot "a la Maya" and arrrghhhh!!! I guess I'll have to find something else, cause it's not working very well  but thanks a lot Iain.
Btw if you know a another way to achive the foot roll attribute with max, that would be nice :) I guess I could use expression but

There is an advanced rigging tutorial at http://www.charactershop.f2s.com which walks you through a rather nice set-up for foot roll (it walks you through a hell of a lot more first mind, but I guess you can skip the bits you don't need). If memory serves it makes use of expressions as well as the reactor controller, but it's really well written and easy to follow.

well isn't driven keys kinda like wiring?
just right click and select the parameters.. and connect it to a viewport slider.

Thanks Iain, this is great, I'm sure it'll do the job :)
Jonaz.dk, driven keys or reactor is a bit like wiring but with more control, ex: it's like telling box1 to rotateX 10 degres when you move a slider (custom att.) from 1 to 5. it's like expressions for the lazy ;)
thanks a lot guys:)
