Nice short! at the begining it looks like a video game cinematic!
I liked the expressions of the girl, maybe the walking animation is a little snappy.. but overall its a great piece!

About the walk cycle it was the 1st animation work we started on the project, I had some difficulties to do it and we didn't have time to make it better

This is a really nice piece.
The facial animation is a little limited, but over all theres a great feel to the motion.
Also, excellent choice of music, sounds really creepy : D

The background music added to the theme a lot. It made it a lot more enjoyable. Nice overall setting
PS: Loved the snow in the window, great detail.

Thanks Jermination, thanks scottda!
Yeah Greg Yu, our music composer, got really inspired making the music! He catched well the mood we would like to give to the film.

But... why "Russian"? :)

I watched it in the Theater of the Culture Center of France in Beijing last month.
The feeling is good!
but as other people said, the animation needs to be better.

Thanks CyberBanshee, thanks enjoyu2 and thanks richardoud for your kind comments!
Wow enjoyu2, I wouldn't think our short could be showed in Beijing! That's nice!
CyberBanshee : about russian reference, we wanted to settle the story in a very cold and windy winter place. So we thought Russia would be the good choice.
We wanted a worrying place outside and a very warm place inside in Douchka's room with a sweet fairy christmas.

In Canada climate equal Russia, by the way :)
And one more question (Sorry for my curiosity).
"Douchka"... means daughter?
11-16-2007, 03:25 AM
Douchka means actually smooth, sweet!!
So it's a kind of irony we gave her that name! :D

I liked the short in general, good camera angels and mood. The only feedback I could give is watch out for your shadows, someplaces you're just missing them. For example one of the renders you put out above where the girl is walking in the hallway. Ground shadows. I really liked the shot where she tries to strugle the bear, her biceps are way too big, could've easily fixed it with blend shapes for that shot.
Other than that, lots of time, lots of good work. Congratulations on finishing! )
