View Full Version : Maya E=MC2 Student Promotion
ChewyPixels 04-13-2003, 06:23 PM This sounds like an awesome promotion for students:

The funny thing is that when I click on the link "Students and Faculty in North America," I can't seem to find this deal on Journey Ed's website. Has anyone else taken advantage of this promotion? If so, where do I purchase? Thought I'd check here before trying to contact Alias and/or JourneyEd. I sure hope this deal keeps running through the release of Maya 5.

Awsome that a/w is offering permanent lics now for students. Previously they were only giving 1 year licenses. Probably your best bet is to just call up Journey Ed. Make sure you know exactly what you want because the journey ed sales people dont know anything about the software they sell(they are pretty clueless). A few things you should know.
1.)A/w does not give students any phone support(they may offer esupport, not sure, inquire about this).
2.)When an upgrade comes out you get it last because your paying so little for it. So you may get your upgrade 2-3 even 4 months after it comes out.
3.) Check to find out how they handle upgrades. Previously they gave you a 1 year lic and you had to pay again each year inorder to get a new license and upgrades. They may now offer a license that does not expire, but they may still require you to pay another $500 next year to get upgrades after a year is up.
Also another nice thing is that if you want to buy a commercial version of maya they will subtract the cost of the student edition from it. So you can get the full commercial version foraround $1500 more rahter than the full 2k.

Well, I just e-mailed JourneyEd. I'll let everyone know what's up once I get their response. So, let's see, that's $500 for the new monitor I recently purchased, $2000 for the gnomon DVDs that I bought not too long ago, and soon I'll be spending $799 for this cool promotion... Aaargh!

Since this is a student promotion does this mean I can not use it for commercial purposes? Where is this this stated? Is there a lisence agreeement somewhere that I can read?
Thanks in advance.

Everytime you boot up maya, the splash screen will make you say ok to use the software for NoN commercial puposes only. Meaning if you make money off of it, you run the risk of a criminal record, and screwing your career over.

In case anyone's interested, JourneyED has finally put it up on their website:
http://www.journeyed.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?UID=2003041410274177&GEN0=&GEN1=&GEN2=&GEN3=&GEN4=&GEN5=&GEN6=&GEN7=&GEN8=&GEN9=index2.html&TRAN85=Y&T1=32806473&FNM=00&UREQA=2&UREQB=1&UREQC=3&UREQD=4
Problem is, they still don't have "Unlimited" up their yet. They only have "Complete"

What if I already am about halfway through my current 1 year student license of Maya? I'm pretty sure I will get the Maya 5 upgrade as part of the deal, but what about the license changing from 1 year to perpetual? Do you think they will allow that? I sure hope so. Anybody know?

Hey Paul,
You'd best try contacting JourneyEd about your situation. Maybe they'll let you upgrade to the perpetual license for free. If not, you can try talking them into upgrading for a small fee. I don't see why they wouldn't. Btw, I hope that you are able to talk to someone there that actually knows their stuff, because the person I spoke to didn't know about this student promotion. However, I did send this person the link to the promotion. The next day, they had finally put up this promotion for sale. Coincidence... , I don't know. I'll be contacting them again since they still don't have Unlimited up there yet, which Aliaswavefront has told me that they should have it there. Best of luck.

Here's the message that JourneyEd has sent me in regards to the Unlimited version of Maya and its student promotion:
It will be another 2 weeks before we will have it up on our website. Our Marketing Department is still working on it. Please check back in about 2 weeks. Sorry for any inconvenience.
