Basically im playing around with an engine (cannot discuss details as its in-house) But im looking to give a wet surface look using the existing tools.

so im basically looking of rsome tips on what happens to surfaces when wet. IE Mud, Dirt, Tarmac etc..

I can adjust..

Diffuse Colour
Specular Mask
Specular Power
Normal Map
Normal Scale
Reflective Mask
Reflective scale.

But not alot else.. So if anyone has any advice or tips on making surfaces look wet, especially within engines id love to hear from you :)

Hi, about making things look wet.

Look at the real thing and analyze what happens.. lets take rocks for example:

when it rains the dust gets washed off making the colors more vibrant and dark ( I am sure you have seen this happen)
A thin layer of water stays on the rock surface. This layer is mostly see through, and lots of reflecting (on a dark background) because it is water.

Now... a reflective material means lots of specularity (reflection of light) and a reflection map (reflection of surroundings) and the colour of the dusted underground is a diffuse map... simple no?

for wood it works a bit different because it will absorb some of the water, but if it rains hard enough the same rules apply... Now go and post what you came up with so we can crit on a more practical level.

Cheers :wavey:
