My first post and first complete model of a character so i cant realy say im that good at this..

Here it goes.. my problem is that i cant realy fit in my characters head in the standard envelopes that the skin modifier in max5 does. As you can see the head is to wide to fit in and as i cant change the radius on the envelope only in x the cheek doesnt rotate with the rest of the head..

What i realy would like to do is the select all the vertexels that i would like to be directly affected (red) and the vertexels that would be part affected (orange to blue).
I have looked att the tutorial but their model fits in those envelopes when my model doesnt.. The same problem appers at the shoulders..

hope you all understood my problem, and excuse my bad english (english isnt my first language  )

edit: i couldnt attach my picture for some reason so i give you this link instead: http://www.solander.org/upload/huvud.jpg

I am also new to this, so not sure if i can help, but i have a suggestion, the 3D studio max 5 character rigging tutorials shows a similar problem and how to solve it as in the example of the part of the chest of the character u rig, where the envelope are not big enough to select all the vertices, u can then paint the weight in. take a more careful look at the tutorial provided.

Tell me if my advice is useful or not :p

try the weight table, it works well. select your head bone, open up the weight table and select whatever verts you want to weigh and type the weight in manually. you can even set the weights interactively by holding down the left mouse button and dragging around in the weight box.

or you can just try painting the weights in, but that's just a little too buggy for me.

Well i found a way to do this, tho it takes a lot of time..
i found a checkbox that said vertex and now i can select all the vertexels i want a bone to affect..
I guess its much like the weight table in a modelling select style..
the only problem i noticed with this method is that there is no "select no backfacing" option making it hard to select large groups of vertexels..
