Hye,
I work on maya4.0 and I've a PIII 500 with a Riva TNT2 32mb.
I don't understand why when I select my mesh (b) I've about one image per second (big lag for a poor mesh) and when my mesh is unselected (a) I can move is easy :surprised. I've "set to face" this mesh. Notice maya 3.0 didn't make it!

So can you help me in the setup of the polygons in the view? Wire pb (soft hard)?
3d acceleration pb? OpenGL? plugin needed?

Thanks

Stupid to give only 20.00kb for attached file !!!

your system specs seem pretty low for maya. i'd suggest upgrading both your CPU and video card given the opportunity.

the TNT cards were of the older generation that didn't have hardware T&L (vertex transofrmation and lighting) support. in layman's terms this enables the video hardware to do a lot more polygon and line crunching than the previous cards which were nothing more than texture rasterizers.

newer cards like the ATi Radeon and nvidia geforce families all contain hardware T&L which will greatly improve the performance of your system.

the image you've provided looks very much like it has anti-aliasing turned on for the mesh (i could be wrong, it is a small image). i'd seriously suggest truning that off with your system specs if you haven't already.

scout around the hardware forum for some good hardware recommendations.

Finaly I've set the preferences to default, and it works right. But I'll follow your advice, and this summer, I'll build a better workstation;

Thanks:beer:

If you have a tight budget, you might be interested in this article.

I am currently using a Leadtek Geforce2 GTS 64Mb, mod into a Quadro2 Pro. Works like a charm. :thumbsup: (comparable/maybe better than a Oxygen VX1(which I use at work))

A Geforce2 now should be very cheap, modding it isn't that tough too. Just search around the web for information on softquadro(software hacking of a geforce2 card to a quadro card).

Here's the first article I came across which made me change my decision to save lots of money to buy a workstation card.

Hope this helps! :)
