id extrude a face and then sacle it to make up the initial size/shape of the door then erase the face, leaving a hole for the door..

imo, your doing it the hard way.. :/

Hi riyazgomes,

I may be on the wrong track here, but the knife tool needs an edge to cut through, so if you're trying to cut a hole in a simple plane then you won't have any edges for the knife tool to work with...

fktt is right... extrude the plane, scale it down and move the points to where your door should be and then remove the face.

If you want to play around with the knife tool - add a mesh cube, subdivide it a few times (maybe 4) to give you some edges, and then try the knife..

cheers,
Matt.

Hey there,

You should have no problems using the knife tool on a plane.

Just press k, left click the type of cut, align the direction of the cut, left click, move the cut to the desired position, left click, repeat.

Easy :)

Hope that helps

The technique we are using right now is deleting the face - subdividing the edge - and rebuilding the faces again.....I think thats the best alternative..but I was hoping it would be more straightforward like the other softwares.

you can select edges and subdivide them w1 or w2, you can add an edgeloop with ctrlR, you can cut through your selected edges/faces by pressing k, you can snap them to one of your viewing axis, you can snap them to other verts, there's tons of ways to cut edges and faces, there's bound to be one way to suit your needs.
