OK artists, let's see what you can do with this one. The concept is simple ... illustrate life under water make it fabulous vehicles, fish, creatures, habitats, people are all accepted past, present and future timelines accepted alien or ancient civilization architectures are accepted basically anything goes as long as it's under the water! Now go! Illustrate and show us what you got! :wip:

I may throw this over into the Cooperative forum for 3D modellers to model your concepts ... depending on the participation.
I'm kinda' bummed that the toy challenge didn't get off the ground.
We'll see how it goes ... :hmm:

Everyone Has done a nice job.

@Rey, I really like The Catch. It reminds me of those posters with people riding dinosaurs and other creatures.

@CABRAMACHO. I like this image too.

Actually, it's a meremaid, a woman, she just has realsitic breasts . :) I would like to know how it was done also though, so I'm putting in a vote for that too, John Doe!

@Aeroplane, john doe, derwolpertinger, Thanks!

Teyon is right, she is a mermaid, perhaps the short hair, the androgynous face (quite difficult to paint a sexy face underwater), and small breasts are quite confusing.

For both images I used photo reference, a fast google image search for the first one and a mag for the second one.

About how the water on the first one was made, i didnīt saved any intermediate steps, and i followed a chaotic try-&-mistake process, so I hope you understand my clumsy text explanation:
I started working in painter classic, using the brush "big fine hair" big size to cover the dark blue colored background. Lots of berserk strokes with different blues, purples, pinks, greens and greys. Also used the pen "calligraphy" for sharpen and small reflections and the water "grainy water" for blending. When i had a quite complex sea, with lots of colors and strokes, i jump to photoshop. Duplicate layer and play with filters. I tryed nearly all of them, but the filters wich gave the right effects were artistic/plastic wrap and sketch/chrome, i transformed the filtered layers with the perspective option (to give deep ) and merged them down with low opacity and in overlay mode (or multiply, screen, luminosity I donīt remember). Then back to painter where the mermaid was painted. Finally in photoshop, resize (original size was 1100x1500, tga file) noise added and save to web to compress under 30kb for attachment.
The original image is here (http://www.gladiator.com.au/01%20Snorkler%20Underwater.gif).

Hope I have explained myself.:hmm:

Hi Guys,

I know, I'm bit too late and my illustration is by far not
finished, but I want to show it to you...

The original sketch took me 1 hour, but I can't decide whether
I will do a colored illustration or a black-and-white illu, which looks like a woodcut

some of the links are broken, like the Chat City, The Undersea Shoppe, But you can go down into the water using the buttons on the upper right hand side of the screen.

Here's a vector graphic I've been doodling with.

Drawn in Flash (woohoo Wacom!) and then some touchups in Photoshop! Originally designed as a logo, but then with more fiddling this was created:

Let me know what you think!
