View Full Version : Bump File
Pretorian 11-05-2007, 01:46 AM I was taking a look on some shaders and saw that the bump file is used sometimes as a black and white color from the normal maps (wich is the "up" and wich is the "down" color, I guess white is "up"?) and sometimes itīs used a "negative color" from the normal maps wich appear purple/blue and red colors. Does anyone know how this works and how can I do this purple/blue red bump map?
Thanks

yes white is the up and black is the down. in photoshop, an easy way to get a fast bump is to apply a photocopy filter and apply the desired look. the photocopy is good for the bumps because it doesnt give you a grey fog like grayscale can.

Thank you sabertooth.
Can you give me more details on what you said? What you mean by "apply a photocopy filter"?

ok, when you have your diffuse map all done and painted, make a new layer with it so that you have two seperate layers, now hide one of them and then go to filter, sketch, photocopy. this will make anything dark, black, and anything light, white, like a photocopier, thus giving you the white up, black down of a bump map. Now thats just a fast easy way to do it, but it works.
