I'm modeling a character for animation right now. I have created the eyebrows with three curves that were lofted, then I made the back-side planar. The eyebrow is going to float off the surface of the face slightly, so that I can do some cartoonish expressions (ie - have the eyebrows fly up above the face entirely)

I am planning to use blendshapes for for the eyebrow control, and I was wondering what the general wisdom is... should I

1) keep the original (pre-loft) curves and modify them, or

2)just delete history and work with the nurbs surface itself for the blendshape

Either way should work fine, I think your model seems light enough that it won't cause any problems. But as a suggestion from me, delete the history on all lofted surfaces after you are satisfied with your results. You can also use joints and skin them to the eyebrows to make them stay in place on the face, and then you only need to rotate the joints to make the brows fly above the head. The blendshapes will still work on the eyebrows after they are skinned.

thanks for the tips, dmcgrath...

definitely keeping the model nice and light. I want this to be more of an animation exercise than anything.

I hadnt even thought of skinning the brows to joints. that makes A LOT of sense.
