View Full Version : T-shirt Design
zekemonny 11-03-2007, 05:17 AM Hello everyone! This is my first post here in CGS, and currently my focus interests are in Adobe Illustrator and t-shirt/logo design.
My aim is to be simplistic with this piece, but pleasing to the eye. Honest critques and suggestions, please?

Nice clean lines, but it looks odd to have the cat so surprised to come upon a mouse...It would visually "read" better to have the mouse come upon the cat, perhaps while carrying the cheese, and being surprised...
It is also a bit too flat with just the outlines. Perhaps some hatch lines for depth or drop shadows (hatch lines work better for t-shirts).
But that's just my perception. Others may "get the joke" the way you have it illustrated.

Thank you for the comment! My intention was to make the mouse shamelessly take the cheese in the cat's face, but I'm having trouble showing that while maintaining the illustration's simplicity. Maybe I'll add speed lines behind the mouse and make him zip out of a hole in the wall or something. Any other suggestions?

I think the real problem here is that the cat is not really surprised at all...
the emotion that goes out from the cat is scared!
It is a good effort though, and I like the cat's outline (the mouse not so much.. it is to designed in comparison to the cat). But I think you are going for a tough subject to do in this "realistic" style. I find that surprise it usually less active and more like a total body freeze... the only thing your body does is autonome since all your braintime is being slurped by analyzing what it is you just saw/heard/felt/smelled...
I am looking forward to an update.. since it has lots of potential. :wavey:
