Great model-nice paint everything is very well done. Only cirt is the car appears to be floating a little, and the shadows are a bit hard edged. Mostly a lighting adjustment I think.

yeah. enviroment....thats the next step. I played with a couple but they never seemed to work with me. maybe that can be may next project. any ideas people?
Dont know if i can help the floating problem.. the shadows would be too hard edged and the background would loose its softness.
Thanks for all your comments!
much appreciated.
I cant believe i actually finished a model. hehe this is the first thing that is complete.... well the car model at least.

Another great car modelling job.. is this done in Max by any chance??? I say this because of the lighting problems.. well shadow problems really, which are really letting this down terribly. The problem is they are not making sense.. they don't start where they should in relation to the underside and the wheels......hence the 'floating'. If you can't fix this in the programme, I think a little judicious Photoshop work is in order. :)

Nigma, as far as lighting, I would guess that if you placed a "Fill" light directly overhead it would ground the car. I would lessen the strength of the existing lights, and try the fill with a bit more strength. I think the real problem is that your lights are very powerful, and at a pretty strong angle as well.

So AWESOME but for the love of god fix the tail light s to look more like glass taillights as well as the headlight bulbs needs some texture work too
This is absolutely incredible...i wish i could have a wallpaper of this...
say 1280 px by 1024 ? just a side view... PM me if you can!
Also the details on this baby are amazing. Right down to the Ferrari emblem (sp?) and the lettering...this is wonderful!

flawless victory
just my opinion but r the rear wheels supposed to stick out that far cuz it looks like they'd get sliced once it hits a pot hole or speed bump.
VERY nice clean looking model. great job.
My only critiques are with the head and tail lights which was mentioned earlier and, I may be alone in this, but the specular on the tires needs to be a bit higher? or maybe the sides are really flat so not to give off much of a specular either way I think if you could get a little more spec on there to give it a little bit more highlight.
heres a example, kinda bad but perhaps it will help out my opinion...note the sides of the tire.

Can I ask where you got your reference material from? This is one of the most detailed models I've ever seen. Did you have full exterior and interior blueprints of the car? It baffles me how people can build 3d models with this level of accuracy. Could you please give us a few pointers on how you went about building it. I'd really appreciate that. Thanks.

I used the photos of the ferrari site. they had ortho views of every angle. the interior was done from looking at images from google image search. very handy indeed. once you have the body of the car sorted out. its easy to see how the rest would be.
this has taken about 6 months on and off. i wasted so much time waiting for renders. i dont know how many times ive redone the paint surface. anyway.
BTW i have an animation from a while ago that i should post.
be back soon :p

Very impressive car!
As for the shadows: Did you consider switching from a few lights with very soft shadows to groups of lights with harder shadows to simulate a kind of area light effect? You could preserve the overall soft look of the shadows and reduce the floating effect. Although the render time will increase.

Veeerrrrry nice..like the attention to detail, nice micro work on the logo horse as well. It's like a high detail lightwave ferrari invasion around here.
I would definitely agree about ditching the shadow mapped spots and just throwing a couple area lights in, should ground it using very few lights and make everything a bit sexier. Same goes for a different environment too. Only other thing I can think of is that the seats seem to be picking up some highlights on their own from all over..makes it seem like they're neon-edged.
Look forward to seeing its further adventures in new places..

Very nice!! ... i would have to agree to what someone mentioned a little bit ago about increasing the spec. a little on the tires... think it would help them stand out and give a little more detail. Very nice... YOur paint texture is cool to....can we see a wire from the back view?

Yep, thats beautiful work for sure! Amazing detail level, and the fact you've gone down to the emblem is really stunning.
Could we see a non-smoothed wire of this model?

It's a great model. I think that’s been established. (It really is) But take a look at the first two pictures and look at the shadow that starts below the mirror on the door and goes above the wheel well. The shadow start nicely and smoothly fades in and then is kind of redirect towards the center of the car abruptly. The second picture down has a better angle of the shadow that I’m talking about. There are two slightly dark areas that look like dents. Is it the model or from the environment. It's nothing that major. Barely even noticeable. Just thought I’d ask.

I just did alot of work trying to find out what the best enviro for the car is.
Best results i've had so far.. aside from radiosity and 5 hour renders were
use area lights exclusively..
also, use invisible objects.
if you want to see my results
http://www.nyclightwave.com/forum/index.php?act=ST&f=16&t=75&
there are some more on the site as well.. just back up a level.
Thats for incamera.. the worst solution in my opinion.
To really finalize the image I'd have to break it down and output rpf, and reassemble in a compositing program.
Only by doing that will I be able to soften shadows, and reflections with more control. (and usually real time results instead of countless renders)
=)
hope that helps
peter
Remember the best light in lightwave is an area light.

I dont' know what all Lightwave is capable of doing, but the rendering (shadows in particular) could use some work. The model looks good, but the shadows don't do it justice.

Superb work, but I must say that the back of the car still looks a little painting-esque, and the chassis a little shadowy. But overall definitely fine!:applause:

... great stuff dude ... I work in LW and I know how much work this was ... three thumbs up and make it rock .... ! .... try using more spotlights that only affect specularity ... that way you can get great lighting effects without overburning the overall pic ... even make the 'ring of spec-lights' effect ....

the car looks real enough, but not realistic enough to be on the road.
wheels are WAY WAY to big, the real modena 360 doesnt have wheels that scrape the inside of the car. the huge wheels make the car look it has no suspension....
adjust the size of your rims, thats easy enough. and allow room for the suspensions compression. It looks like you have a really bumpy ride...
very minor adjustment that is.. great job the rest of the car looks great.
