Hello cgtalk,

I'm doing some test renders for an arch vis project, and I'm having troubles making the light pass through the windows of my building in vray. The material appears to be fine, I've applied the same material to the sphere in the renders and it looks great there, but for whatever reason it leaves solid shadows on the ground, especially inside the building. This is important, I need the light to pass through and contribute to the interior lighting. Can anyone help me out please?

*oops, guess I should upload the images.

you'll have to activate 'affect shadows' in your glass-material and activate reflective and refractive GI-caustics in your IndirectIllumination-settings to make the light pass through the glass.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried rendering with all of these options on and still no luck. What I've settled on is calculating the irradiance map without the glass at first and then turning off cast shadows for the windows when they're in the scene to render. It seems to work fairly well. I'm sure it's not the best solution though. I'm open to any and all suggestions, I'm a novice Vray user.

Do you have both "affect shadows" in the VRay object options as well as "cast shadows" in the object properties deactivated?

I don't think I have two affest shadows options activated, I'll look at that, thank you.
