Hey guys, I recently bought a new computer, its a Dell Precision, Windows XP, SP 2, Dual Core Xeon 2.66 ghz, with a Nvidia Quadro 3500. Very frequently when I turn on my computer windows will start loading then the screen will turn black and my computer will just hang there. After which I must restart my computer and windows asks me if I want to start in safe mode or the last known good configuration, then everything is good to go. But its really annoying and I wonder if its eventually going to screw up my computer.

Is there a way to figure out whats causing the problem?

The only way is to hitup the safe mode and read the system logs. For Windows 2K based machines, this normally occurs because the screen resolution on the system does not work on the monitor. XP however, auto adjusts for this.

If you have a corrupted WinXP install, just boot with the CD and do an install repair in place, which does not overwrite ur files, just recopies Windows to the hard drive and resets settings to default. This is really messy, but a good way to get your system up and running for backup purposes before you format it.
