I've searched and gathered some info but I've been out the game for a while and now looking to build myself a new rig. I want to go intel quad-core with 4gb+ ram but I'm confused about whether to go 64bit or not. Last time I was here 64bit meant a world of hurt with drivers etc.
I run photoshop, flash, 3dsmax 8 and Lightwave 8. I'll probably upgrade lightwave in the coming months. Whats the general consensus these days? Do folk go 64bit now or is 32bit still the mainstream? Do I dare to get vista or should I stay with XP?

Depends on your needs. However, Windows 64bit has generally been problem free for me since it was released. I've had no issues with drivers at all. Though it is true it has less support, you only really need to keep an eye out for the odd device like a scanner, printer, or something similar. It is in most cases that those devices will have issue, especially if they are old. But when it comes to essential hardware for a workstation, pretty much everything is supported well..

I would move to 64bit Windows IF you need the RAM, as generally this is the main attraction. If you find you are maxing out RAM on a 32bit system, 64bit is the answer.

I dislike Vista :)
