View Full Version : Animation: Demo Reel
LPlasma 04-12-2003, 11:18 AM Hi, I just finished up my new demo reel (has some bits of a short I recently finished in it as well) and I plan on sending this out on monday to game companies (or other 3d-related companies) in the Redmond/Seattle area for internships. Let me know what you think of it. If you want a better idea of the level of quality of my work, check out my personal website ( http://www.desertcrisis.com/lplasma/ ). I'm looking for comments/suggestions on both the site and the reel. Thanks. Here's a shot from the short as well.

Also, I will be posting the short probably after I tweak some of its camera angles and render it again. After I do that it will also get sound/music.

Also, does anyone think I should consider adding more content to the reel, or is it fine? I could add more 3d or possibly 2d/sculpture things to the reel, but I'm not sure if I would want to do so. Input is appreciated.

You need to update your divx (you need to update it to watch a lot of stuff that's been posted on cgtalk in fact, such as Dronez)
Also, one change I will be making for sure is that I will be changing the music.

Nathan,
After watching your demo reel, it looks like you're focusing in lo-poly modeling for games and you're definitely on your way. Some points you might want to look into:
- Watch your texturing on the ground in the opening animation, I believe I saw a few models with stretched textures, which can be easily fixed by tiling the image or uping the res of the map in Photoshop. I noticed a few textures could use some bump maps on them (or maybe higher values).
- I liked the "samuarai ant", even though the camera movements reminded me of anime to a degree. Things look a bit stiff as far as animation; try giving your character a little more weight to his movement.
- Good gun model! An essential to the 1st person shooter, but it became boring after awhile watching it shoot.
Hope this crit helps you develop your demo reel. Good luck on your internship hunt!
-Joe
