I have been watching all these Wips etc about transforming cars, Ipods etc to robots. My question is : How do you make such animations? I mean , do you have to model the car, the robot and mix them in animation? Do you have to make the car and via animated extrusion end up to the robot? I want to animate a simple object let's say a box to transform it to a robot. How can I do that?

it is easily done by using the transform plugin for max/maya ofcourse!!! hehe
just kidding.

i have never tried anything like this before but IF i was to attempt such an animation i would begin modelling the object...detaching lots of parts into elements.....using LOTS of pivot points....and finally "cheating" reality with visibility controls.
The difficult part will then be to hide the "cheating" by some smart camera movement.

but then again...the guys here in CGS who have already done such animations can give a more respected answer.... ;)

look up some "Transformers Game" movies and they go into a lil bit of how they did it, its basically what IpiotisDinos has stated, bit its cool none the less to watch them tinker with it.
