Ok, so I think this is a dumb question but.. her goes..

I have 3 different curves that I need to combine into 1 object so that I can use it as a curve emitter,, so i want to combine them without moving their endpoints... is this possible?

thanks.

particle emitters work on a one-shape-one-emitter basis.
You will need to create multiple curve emitters, and connect them all to one particleShape via dynamic relationship.

you can also use several emitters to emit into the same particle object

yeah, you have to create 3 emitters, one per curve and then delete particle 2 and 3,
remaining one - go to dynamic relationship select the remaining particle and within the emittertab ou can now connect all emitters to this one remaing particle system.

thanks, yea the multi emitter route is the one i ended up using. thanks. still wish there was a way to combine curves on an object level yet have them not attached. =)

You can loft the curves and emit from the resulting surface.
Or you can use resulting surface to make new curve by making surface live.
If you want more random emition, you might use pencil tool to draw curve on surface.
Also you can atach curves, but you must keep history, and then if you move any of the curves they will stay atached, etc.

Just some ideas...

here is the effect im going for. Picture curves that are in the shape of letters that spell out a word. Not an outline but down the center. each letter is a diff curve. attaching doesnt work because it will connect the curves and the particles need to be emitted from the exact spot of the curve so that it matches another element. Basically the effect is kind of like blowing up a word that was written. Your idea of lofting might work but is it possible to combine surfaces into one object without moving them either?

you can loft them to a poly object and combine all that to one poly object....

ya, nice, that would work

You can also create surface from curves with create plannar surface, then you can use emit from textures and define from where on surface you are emiting particles.
If you want to make polygons out of curves, there is a small mel script on highend3d which does that, maybe there is one under bonus tools too. Let me know if you can't find it and you need it.
