please critique my portfolio.
some of it, all of it, whatever you feel like.

the quality of work at cgtalk is such that it's killing my confidence
when i need it the most.

don't need to hear how "nice" some of these models are.
rather find out what would you do to take this work to the
next level.

What i notice the most is you reply too much on textures.. you need to MODEL the detail...

crappy textures just make the models look... crappy.

If you can't do good textures.. leave them out completely.

The flying baloon model is a good start piece..

I would delete everything else :hmm: They look very amaturish.

Seems you want to be a modeler... so focus on modeling and modeling alone.

looks like you are getting the idea with your more detailed flying ballon... stay with that modeling approach.. no textures and high detail and origional designs.

but yeah i would scrap everything else and start anew with the baloon

although i understand you wanting more content.. it does bring down the level of your portfolio.

When i clicked on it.. i scrolled up and down quickly.. the Ballon caught my eye first becuase it looks interesting.. and it's a decent model... however when i clicked on the low poly girl the quality took a nosedive...

The cars.. i've seen hundred... that are better. :hmm:

More isn't always better. Most companies would look at the first few pics and loose intrest.

My advice is to really wipe everything off apart from the balloon and put the axe to the grind again.

A portfolio is to sell your ability.. looking at the ballon model i KNOW you can do a better model than that low poly girl. Putting that in your portfolio is pretty much saying "this is the best i can do"

Monoblanco, you're doing, in my opinion, the right thing. You recognize that you need more time and practise and you're asking for help. If this is all the work that you have right now, then show it. This way a potential employer will know exactly what they are getting with you. A lot of companies need entry level artists, and your work, even if a little raw, shows effort and potential. Just keep making more, and slowly lose the lesser quality pieces. But they can stay up for now, until you have replacements. About getting better, closely study work that you like, practise more, and don't get discouraged.
