I am using 3ds max 9 with Vray 1.5rc3. I am having problems with my lighting. As you can see in the attachment I cannot get light to shine on my log home, but I am able to see the sky environment very good. The rest of the picture is pure BLACK. I tried using a regular omni light and direct lights with high intensities, but to no luck. It still comes out rendered black. I also messed around with the Environment and Effects panel(tweaking the exposure control, messing with ambient lighting, Tint lighting, and even Color, but no luck)

I also tried using the Vray light, but that didn't work also. I don't have Vraysun for some strange reason, so I can't check to see if that works. But I am assuming that I should be able to use regular lights(spot, direct, omni) to shine them on my model and be able to see it when I render, using Vray 1.6 rc 3, Right??

I ran out of ideas on how I can solve this problem. I am depending on you guys to try and help me out. Please??

I have two attached pictures(sorry if they aren't large enough, but I think you can see them good enough to understand my point) If you look at the screen shot I took of my two monitors with 3ds max 9 open, you'll be able to see that I have NO VRaySun button to click on. I have a VRayLight button, but no sun. I have NO IDEA why not. I am using the trial version so I have 25 more days left.

Please help??

thanks so much

are you using the right materials? If you use materials that are not supported by vray, then the render could go black.

And what about refraction? In my own experience I could remember that I did something with refraction once a time, and then all my meshes went black too.

other stuff might be that everything is excluded from the light sources wich would mean that all the meshes receive no light. but... that would be weird if that's the case.

Well these are just one of the things that came to mind.

I think you should make some printscreens of most of your settings to give others more information about what's wrong.

ok i'll make some prints so you guys will better understand what im talking about.

as far as materials go. Are there special materials that I can only use with v-ray. I thought i was able to use almost any material

thanks
